I said that I'd just turned 50, and don't have a moment's regret, in fact, I'm so relieved I didn't.
She said most people haven't supported her and have just criticised her decision.
It's shocking that so many people think women (and men) can't make their own personal reproductive life choices. But this can be the biggest decision people make, it's forever life-changing.

I was having a conversation with someone at work this morning. She's in her mid-30s, and she's splitting from her boyfriend because he wants children, and she doesn't.
She's been bombarded with people saying, "You'll change your mind", and "You'll miss out".
I told her I was sorry it's come to that, but I really respect her decision. That she is being true to herself and that she can't change her mind for his sake, when she would end up resenting him.

For years, people (mostly mothers) went on at me to have children, coming up with the usual crap about "regretting it", that'd I would "change my mind" and all that BS I'd heard a thousand times.
They presumed to know me more than I know myself.Guess what?
I recently turned 50 and do not regret being child-free for one single second. -
I haven't been nagged at for being child-free by choice in quite some time. Now I'm 50, I thought it had ceased.
But no, only a couple of days ago I was asked if I regretted it and told that "some women have children around 50."
Fuck, no.

I’ll never cease to be surprised by some people’s audacity. I know the internet is anonymous, so I shouldn’t be. But I am.
I wrote a piece about why I don’t have kids and how I realized I never wanted them.
And some guy took it upon himself to tell me that women shouldn’t be allowed to get an education until they’ve had at least two babies.

I'm so happy to be (nearly) 50 and happily child-free by choice. At least now, people have stopped badgering me about my life choice. I have no regrets.

I know better than to get into this with the people who posted this on LinkedIn but I need to vent somewhere so welcome to my TED Rant, you lucky fucks! 😆
This pisses me off to no end. First of all, it's an incredibly white, privileged, non-disabled point of view. If you're from a marginalised group, or even multiply-marginalised, your child-free day definitely does NOT look like this. But hey, even if we leave that out and the only difference really is whether you have a brood or not, it's still absurd. And it's a shitty ass viewpoint that implies that child-free people do fuck-all during their days.
We have pets, we have hobbies, we have interests, we might have caretaking duties, we are often asked to work longer "because we don't have families" (fun fact: kids are not the only way to have a family, but I digress). We also have to plan things, make appointments, etc. My days — and none of my child-free friends' days — have never looked like that.
But you know what? If my days really did look like the people who made these image assume, hell, I'd probably also have children to fill that hole. 😏😜
fwiw I do not have any issues with people having kids but I do have issues with the way some of them look down on us, infantilise us, and belittle us simply for choices that we've made — that was very likely open to them as well. It's not my fault you hate your life so how about you don't invent a false narrative for mine to make yourself feel superior?

Why, when we're on holiday in #Lanzarote, are all the children who are screaming, running around and being general shits always British? It's never the Spanish children. I'm not saying they're immaculately behaved, but they're dealt with appropriately and quickly.
They always sit, well-behaved when having dinner in an evening and not running around, laying on floors and getting under people's feet and creating a racket.
Thank goodness I'm child-free. No regrets.

Some really sad stories from people who were child-free by choice, but ended up having children for a variety of reasons; from coercion (even rape) and accidents to 'simple' regret.
As a child-free woman myself, my heart goes out to these people, as I have never regretted my choice for a single second.
So if you're on the fence about having children, or actually made the choice to stay child-free, this is worth a read.
