  1. Demand justice for women handcuffed during childbirth
The Ministry of Justice has launched an independent investigation into the barbaric practice of handcuffing women during childbirth and intimate medical exams, after public pressure forced them to act. But it’s a figleaf investigation: they are doing the bare minimum to create the illusion of accountability, but there’s no real substance or support for women who have been impacted.

  2. 2...
61% of the bleeds reported on below, then, come in the 10% of those at risk who the existing test can't see, and/or the unquantified number who didn't attend, didn't get, were not offered(??) or whatever, didn't have that scan.

    Which is phenomenally good, actually.
Only 39% of problems occurred in the 90% diagnosed prenatally.

  3. I've sworn to never use cars, except in life-threatening emergencies.

One exception I had to make was for the birth of my child: we had to borrow a car. We could anticipate when Maggie would go into labor, but we could not show up at the hospital early. There is a bus stop at the hospital, we could have used public transit if we didn't have to wait until it was an (artificial) emergency.

Do other places have solutions for #carfree births? (Home birth was too risky for us.)

  9. The human cost of unsafe abortions.

Romania’s history offers a rare natural experiment on what happens when abortion laws change rapidly.

What can the rest of the world learn from this?
