  1. Anyway, I made a fun design based on the t-shirt a servant of Satan was wearing in an old Chick tract. If you value my political and theological insights, what's wrong with you, but if you don't, you can express your deep conviction that drugs certainly do skull by heading over to redbubble.com/shop/ap/16364829 and buying one at wholesale. I'm serious, I have my profit margin set to the lowest level allowed by law. Redbubble law is swift and merciless.

  2. The tract ends how Chick tracts always end. The pro-gay character (despite being previously identified as a reverend and a Bible scholar) is told the story of Jesus, and acts as if he's never heard it before. He repents and is saved, hallelujah, and don't you want to do the same, you sinner?

Nothing further is said about the fate of the hospitalized, bandaged Black preacher who was beaten up by the cops. This is on-brand for Chick comics: women and POC are only used as props until a heroic white evangelist comes in and saves the day.

  3. By the way, if you were wondering how Chick rebuts this... he doesn't. His self-insert character basically just says, "Nuh-uh! God hates gayness!" and rebukes the demon in the name of Jesus, causing it to flee and the pro-gay character to suddenly go weak in the knees.

Do Christian fundamentalists ever try this on actual nonbelievers? Or are they sufficiently skilled at doublethink to not attempt it in the real world because they know it doesn't work?

  4. This next part is really interesting. It's the closest Jack Chick comes - in any of his tracts - to letting the side he doesn't agree with make an actual argument.

The (fake, liberal, pro-gay) Christian refers to anti-gay biblical interpretations as propaganda put out by "right wing extremists". I've never heard right-wing extremists describe themselves as such, so that alone is surprising.

But he goes on to correctly cite Ezekiel 16:49, which says that Sodom's sin was not homosexuality:

"Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy."

I'm genuinely shocked that Jack Chick acknowledges the existence of this passage!

  5. Now that the original preacher is in the hospital, it's time for a theological debate between Chick's righteous, square-jawed self-insert character, and an evil, tolerant, gay-affirming pseudo-Christian, about whether God loves LGBTQ people or whether he wants to incinerate them with heavenly fire.

Here's the pro-gay fake Christian, who has a demon hovering behind him so we know to disregard whatever he says without considering it. All he's missing is the black shirt that says "SICKOS."

  6. It's not entirely clear because of the low-quality art, but I think the preacher is intended to be Black, which really adds a whole other level of grossness to this.

It's like Chick has vaguely heard about innocent people being beaten by cops, but can't imagine any reason why that would happen other than bias against his specific religion.

  7. On the next page, the... violently pro-gay cops?... come and beat up the Christian preacher while yelling, "Stinking straight!"

Jack Chick says ACAB, I guess?

  8. You just have to imagine Chick drawing this panel with an air of satisfaction: "Yes, that's exactly how it is. Gay people scream threats and insults and call for violence against peaceful Christians who are harming no one. That's definitely what happened."

  9. Here's the opening page. Note Jack Chick's use of the term "gay basher", which, as we all know, was coined to describe Christians who peacefully protest LGBTQ pride parades.
