#ChemicalAgents were used against #protesters, & 2 people were detained & later released. Protesters damaged an unmarked vehicle with police lights.
A #Minneapolis police officer who identified himself as a supervisor to several protesters told them he did not know exactly what happened. “It’s not like they’re talking to us,” he said, referring to the federal agents on scene.

A few minutes later, at least 2 #ICE agents arrived in an unmarked SUV & sprayed #ChemicalAgents in the faces of #protesters who approached them, causing one protester to say that he could not see. At one point, a protester fired several fireworks toward retreating ICE agents & their cars.

The accusations leveled by Brandon Sigüenza & Patty O’Keefe suggest that #DHS is employing similar tactics in #Minneapolis & #StPaul as it did during the crackdowns in #LosAngeles, #Chicago & #NewOrleans. Federal officers are again using roving patrols, #WarrantlessArrests & aggressive tactics such as spraying #ChemicalAgents, breaking car windows & recording #protesters, including #ReneeNicoleGood & her vehicle in the moments before an #ICE officer fatally shot her.

“The agent then yelled ‘throw another one’ & prepared a second canister,” acc/to a filing by attorneys for the plaintiffs. “Similarly, one agent told another, ‘Hey, throw it (#TearGas) for fun.’”
Video of both incidents did not capture agents ordering the crowd to disperse or warning that they were going to deploy #ChemicalAgents, as required by Ellis’ order.

Rodriguez-Sanchez said she saw a man being detained, & anticipating the use of #ChemicalAgents, immediately ran to nearby Hibbard Elementary School to make sure #children were inside.
She came back to the scene, & said she was at one point shoved by federal agents as she tried to reach the man who had been pulled out of his vehicle.
“They showed up here to terrorize people, & they got a response from the community. People did everything they could. I’m just so heartbroken,” she added….

The latter are now heavily involved in #immigration arrests FAR from the US-Mexico #border; most federal agents have scant experience dealing with #protesters in #urban areas. #DHS claims *assaults* [people defending themselves] against officers have risen significantly.

The use of #TearGas has persisted in recent days despite a #CourtOrder forbidding officers from using #ChemicalAgents against #demonstrators & #journalists unless they pose a safety threat. Last week, Gregory #Bovino, the #BorderPatrol official leading the #Chicago operation, was videotaped throwing a tear-gas canister into a crowd. In another incident, #immigration officers deployed tear gas as #families were walking to a Halloween parade.

Since then, federal officers have thrown #ChemicalAgents out of vehicles on city streets, creating a hazard for motorists. They have thrown #TearGas canisters near stores & #schools, exposing #children, #pregnant women & #older people to the noxious gas. And on numerous occasions federal officers have fired pepper balls directly at protesters—in one case, striking a pastor in the head.

The lawsuit claims federal agents have indiscriminately used #ExcessiveForce & have “randomly singled out” reporters & protesters w/ #ChemicalAgents during #protests outside the #ICE processing center in #Broadview.

Some demonstrators in downtown #Chicago threw water bottles at #police officers & vandalized at least 2 vehicles.
