I checked the use-by date on the Nikon Yokan I bought at the Nikon Museum a while back. I don’t think I’ll ever become a Nikon camera user, but I enjoy the merchandise, so I end up buying all sorts of things. The Nikon Moleskine I bought ages ago is great fun too.

  6. I don't know why, but I find the Chemex coffee brewer just an insanely beautiful item. I was mesmerised the very first time I came across one. #coffee #chemex

  7. I finally got around to try out my #chemex coffee maker. I'll probably need a scale to get the water-coffee ratio right, right now I just kind of yolo'ed it. #coffee

I'd been thinking it didn't look green at all, so I lined it up with the black one again. And finally, Kakimori's indigo reached a level where it couldn't be absorbed. Saturday, opening a new bottle while thinking how interesting the shape of the No. 32 nib is.

  10. I've been eyeballing the Chemex coffee makers often used by my favorite cafeteria here in Kouvola. I finally got mine as a Christmas present from my partner! 🥰

After decades, an aquarium has been set up in our home, and medaka fish swim inside. My family, showing mysterious consideration like wanting to let them sleep early, dims the lights downstairs and retreats upstairs earlier at night.
My home stock of canario coffee (Kaldi coffee) is finally running out, which makes me a little sad.

The spring sunshine is finally here. I made coffee jelly. The measuring cup with a spout for tamagoyaki (egg roll) that I bought at Kappabashi the other day was just right for the amount and ease of pouring for the jelly.

  14. Electric Kettle vs Stovetop Kettle

After doing extensive online research and watching several informative YouTube videos comparing electric and stovetop kettles, I’ve started rethinking my current brewing setup. For the past two years, I’ve been happily using my Fellow Stagg Gooseneck Pour-Over Stovetop Kettle, which I bought on Amazon for $85. It’s served me incredibly well—I love its elegant design and precise pour control, especially for pour-over coffee. But recently, I’ve learned that electric kettles offer […]

My annual promise is to use a fountain pen with a plum pattern until the cherry blossoms bloom.

  16. Cold, icy morning means time for some delicious, locally roasted coffee in my Chemex.

  18. Part of today's to-do list is restocking my Chemex filters with a few more boxes. I found a good deal on these on eBay, but they're marked as used. No, thank you.

I expect this means the box is just a little banged up, but I'll pass on these.

  19. Our standard 30g beans + 500ml just off the boil filtered water Chemex brew, starting with 50ml water 30 second bloom.

Extraction time was just under 4 minutes, bang on really but could maybe take the grind down a notch next time.

(Some day we need to replace our now 15 year old Dualit burr grinder.... but it suffices for now.)

    So hot everyday!

  21. Having a slow day. Watched some walking tours of #Berlin and #Montreal on YT this morning with some nice #coffee from the #chemex. Had a light lunch, now backing up files and listening to #kidkoala records.

  22. One of the most important articles I've written on CoffeeGeek in some time.

The One to Fourteen. It's all about coffee ratios and how to get the best cup of non-espresso brewed coffee... even if you don't own a scale. Read, share, comment, enjoy!

  25. Can a thing be valuable? To me, yes--if it represents great design, and/or if it has become part of the story of my life.

This carafe kettle is both. I bought it in my 20s, and used it this morning to boil water for iced tea. Handblown, the chimney is also a handle, kept cool enough for bare hands by the "steam stopper" that sits inside. The second photo is from 1982, where it's in the passive solar house I built in 1980 in
