it turns out that I don't like Cave Matured Cheddar Gorge cheese, apparently the only Cheddar from Cheddar. I only like false Cheddars (including ones with very similar subsidy codes so presumably from the next village). I did get to see where my cheese was matured, but not the cows involved in production.
I failed to buy any local beer (because I had already spent nearly £50 on beer from Devon)

Contemporary #CheddarCheese is not what it used to be. I want this #historical #cheese in my mouth. Now. Barry’s Bay used to make a mature rind cheddar that smelt of New Zealand beech forest and lichen. I haven’t been able source it for over a year. They now offer a sad block of “Mature Cheddar”, but it tastes flat and uninteresting.
