Took the brand new Daimond Harbour-Lyttelton Ferry boat today ⛴️
The Black Pearl, built by Custom Boats in Rangiora, has nearly twice as much capacity as the old Black Diamond boat, and improved accessibility for prams and bikes. No more getting left on the jetty due to a full ferry!

Ive been all in on using the current rail network to restore Chch commuter rail, but network limitations hinder that idea, including impacting freight, single tracked Main North Line, the distance of the line to the city centre, & poor urban catchment between the city and Hornby.
a Tram-Train model could be the answer to those limitations. Trains running on a light rail network through the city to Belfast-Hornby, then using the existing rail to connect to Rangiora-Rolleston 🚈

Built in 1874, this old railway bridge carried the line over the L1 Creek to the Lincoln Railway Station, then off to Southbridge and Little River until the closure of the line south of Prebbleton in 1967.

There's so much potential for rail transport in Canterbury.
Invest in rail infrastructure such as double tracking to Rolleston, a T Junction at Addington, new crossing loops on the Main North Line, and rebuild the stations that connect the suburbs and outlying towns to the city.
Our second largest city deserves a fair deal. Build an integrated transport network & keep Chch moving well into the future! 🛤

I wonder if Dunedin Railways could be convinced to run a Dunedin-Christchurch Southerner Train on a regular basis using their Panorama carriages?
Probably have more luck restoring the service with them than Kiwirail.

The 12ha Riccarton House & Bush/ Pūtaringamotu is such a gem. One of the last stands of native Bush in Christchurch Ōtautahi with Kahikitea trees up to 600 years old.
Deans Cottage, built in 1843, is the oldest building on the Canterbury Plains, and Riccarton House, the Deans later grand homestead has guided tours available 🌳

With over 78000 people now living in Selwyn, 66000 in Waimakariri, and 391000 within Christchurch city, the need for alternatives to road transport has never been higher.
Many of these growing commuter towns and suburbs are connected by rail to the city centre, let's use it!

Like Hornby, Papanui would be a big winner in the creation of a Chch Commuter Rail network.
With Northlands Mall, Papanui Shops, High School, Library, bus connections, and residential area all within a short walk from its former Railway Station, one of the few original stations to still exist 🚉

Hornby, with the railway running through its heart, would be one of the biggest winners of a Chch Commuter Rail network.
A potential Hornby Station would have The Hub, DressSmart & other retailers, nearby residential areas, Denton Park, Hornby Library and High School, and multiple Metro bus services, all within a short walk 🚉

I believe the solution is simple here:
1. Don't drive around in pointlessly large cars to compensate for something that is small
2. Have large cars pay for 2 parking spaces
3. Promote cycling even more by converting the car park spaces to bike park spaces
