Chatto ist in der 0.4.x-Reihe als Kommunikationsplattform schon sehr, sehr kompetent; mit der Version 0.5 wird da nochmal eine Schippe draufgelegt.
Ich werde auch dieses Mal wieder MC sein. Dass ich das noch erleben darf!*

After trying many alternatives, and giving up trying other alternatives, #Chatto seems to be the best self-hostable alternative to Slack/Discord. Easy to set up, good documentation, helpful community. And it works great! Chat, voice, video!

Într-o eră în care confidențialitatea datelor pe platformele de mesagerie comerciale este din ce în ce mai pusă sub semnul întrebării, alternativele auto-găzduite (self-hosted) devin noua normă pentru comunitățile tech, familii și companii mici. Cel mai nou jucător pe această scenă este Chatto, o aplicație de chat modernă și minimalistă, care tocmai a făcut pasul cel mare: codul său sursă a fost complet deschis, iar platforma este acum disponibilă pentru oricine dorește să o ruleze pe propriul server.
Chatto își propune să ofere o experiență de comunicare fluidă, similară cu Slack sau Discord, dar fără colectare de date, reclame sau dependențe de servere terțe.
Iată principalele caracteristici și beneficii pe care le aduce deschiderea proiectului Chatto:
🔹 Control absolut asupra datelor (Self-Hosting nativ):
Prin trecerea la modelul open-source, Chatto le oferă utilizatorilor libertatea deplină de a-și stoca istoricul conversațiilor, fișierele trimise și profilele utilizatorilor pe infrastructura proprie. Fie că o instalezi pe un server VPS în cloud sau pe un computer compact de acasă (cum ar fi un Raspberry Pi), datele tale rămân exclusiv sub controlul tău.🔹 Interfață modernă, fluidă și minimalistă:
Chatto nu face compromisuri la capitolul design. Aplicația vine cu o interfață web curată, aerisită și extrem de rapidă, concepută pentru productivitate și ușurință în utilizare. Dispune de:Suport impecabil pentru teme luminoase și întunecate (Dark Mode).
Organizare clară pe canale de discuție și mesaje directe (DM).
Sincronizare în timp real a mesajelor, fără latențe, datorită unei arhitecturi bazate pe WebSockets.
🔹 Implementare ultra-simplă prin Docker:
Pentru a elimina bătăile de cap legate de configurarea manuală a bazelor de date și a dependințelor, echipa de dezvoltare oferă imagini oficiale de Docker. Cu o singură comandă de tip docker-compose up, serverul tău Chatto este pornit și gata de configurare în doar câteva minute, făcând aplicația extrem de accesibilă chiar și pentru cei care nu au cunoștințe avansate de administrare de sistem.🔹 Securitate și consum redus de resurse:
Scrisă pe o structură tehnologică modernă, Chatto este extrem de ușoară din punct de vedere al consumului de memorie și procesor. Aplicația pune accent pe securitatea transmisiunilor, fiind proiectată să ruleze cu ușurință în spatele unui proxy invers (cum ar fi Nginx sau Caddy) pentru a beneficia de criptare SSL automată și gratuită prin Let's Encrypt.Prin transformarea sa într-un proiect open-source, Chatto se alătură comunității globale de unelte destinate independenței digitale, oferind o alternativă solidă, sigură și extrem de elegantă pentru comunicațiile private de zi cu zi.

> Today is probably a fine day to mention that I've been working on a self-hostable #Discord/slacklike called #Chatto. It's steadily moving towards feature parity with the big kids, with everything crammed into a single compact 50 MB executable that can run off the cheapest VM you can find.

Just an incredible weekend of progress for #Chatto, but sadly I didn't manage to hit my goal of making the test instance public. The RBAC system ended up being much more work than expected, and I need to straighten some things out before I can let you crazies on. Soon!

This continues to blow my mind. Every single one of these is running against its own 100% isolated #Chatto instance. This is only possibly because Chatto is compact, self-contained, and spins up almost instantly.

Just in case you've been wondering: yes, #Chatto is real. A full self-hostable Discordslacklike in a single 44 MB binary that runs out of the box with no external dependencies. (Well, there may be one or two missing features still. :b)

Testing a simple #Chatto deployment setup using Docker Compose with three load-balanced replicas. Yeah, that's around 40 MB RAM usage each. Can your self-hosted Discord clone do this? (*)
