Whine or wine? Last night, picked wine. An odd duo for the main event, the Thalassitis 2015 Assyrtiko, with synthetic cork, was super. So youthful, so fresh, restrained and elegant. The Pegau 1998 Reservée opened slowly, but blossomed into pure deliciousness. A little rough around the edges, it could use drinking, but it was no slouch. And a sweet conclusion posted on recently. Trying to drink down the Reservées, I come to this last-bottle 2000. It held pretty well, but needed to be drunk for best results. There's still some backbone and flavor, but at times it is a little dull, a nice drink that probably would've been better a few years ago. Still, a pleasant pizza wine, alcohol under control. Recent pricing in the $80s, mostly. #wine #chateauneuf

Looked for the 1999, pulled the 2003. Actually have a bottle or two of each left, but over time, I've come to like the '99 better. It's fresher and it's better balanced. This 03 is still pretty good, though, rich, lush and seductive. Don't drink it too warm, though; alcohol is not irrelevant. Probably about $60 these days, but it wasn't then! Still fine, but I see no point to holding this longer. #wine #chateauneuf
