One of the five or so greatest #jazz albums of all time.
My son is 16. Up until about a year ago, he LOATHED jazz.
THIS album may have been the one that cracked him. I certainly have heard him revisiting it after our first spin of it together.
Time to break out some of the good Scotch, too.

Guys, a little help over here.
Have you seen the #PrimeVideo series #AlexCross? There is the fragment of a melody that the protagonist plays on the piano to wake up his children and call them down for breakfast. It’s a short loop.
It sounds a lot like #MilesDavis “So what”, but I’m not quite sure, it could also be a piece by #CharlesMingus (I’m even fuzzier on this respect).
Any ideas? It’s quite distinctive but I’m just not that versed on #jazz

Been a bit busy receiving birthday beatings, blowing out candles, and eating cake to post over the past couple of days.This was the first of the birthday haul. I hadn’t realised until I started playing it that it’s Mingus re-recording some of his biggest tunes, often giving them different names. It shouldn’t work, but it does. This is largely due to the amazing band he had at this time.
Also – best album name ever.

After watching the #PBS #AmericanMasters program on the life of the virtuoso pianist #HazelScott, I was reminded that I have her album "Relaxed Piano Moods" in my LP collection.
What's really interesting about this album apart from it's delightful sound is that while Scott is the lead player, her "backup" players for #MaxRoach & #CharlesMingus who (at the time (1955) were just emerging as two of the greatest #ModernJazz (#PostBop) musicians of the era who have since become legends of jazz.
Roach had only started playing with #Brownie (#CliffordBrown) in 1954 (who tragically died in a car accident just 2 years later) and it was only a year later in 1956 that #Mingus released his epic album "Pithecanthropus Erectus."
It is also notable the #DebutRecords which was the label that released this recording was founded by Roach & Mingus in 1952 (& went out of business in 1957) and that they thought so highly of Scott that they presumably volunteered to serve as her sidemen on the album!
