  1. “What kind of country do we become, when we hold some people as less worthy of dignity and freedom than others? What kind of country do we become when we brutalize the helpless?”
—Charles Eisenstein, "Greatness" after the Bulldozer

  2. "Trusted Disclosure Agreement" https://

"Imagine this instead of an NDA"

Please take the time to read it, and feel how different it feels from legal contracts with the implicit threat of the state's legal monopoly on violence.

I connect very deeply with what Charles Eisenstein brings, in general, and about great many things. I also think that lack of trust is something that makes our society so harmful in so many ways. Also, a tremendous waste of energy (mental, and also measured-in-Joules)

  3. "Any movement that leverages contempt in its rhetoric fits the Girardian impulse. Elements of scapegoating such as dehumanization, rumor-mongering, stereotyping, punishment-as-justice, and mob mentality are alive within dissident communities as they are in the mainstream. Any who ride those powers to victory will create a new tyranny no better than the previous."

  4. "How does a small elite move the great mass of humanity? They do it by aggravating and exploiting deep psycho-social patterns such as the Girardian. Fascists have always done that. We normally attribute pogroms and genocide to racist ideology, the classic example being antisemitic fascism. From the Girardian perspective it is more the other way around. The ideology is secondary: a creation and a tool of impending violent unanimity."

  5. "All that is necessary is that the dehumanized class arouse the blind indignation and rage necessary to incite a paroxysm of unifying violence. More relevant to current times, this primal mob energy can be harnessed toward fascistic political ends. Totalitarians right and left invoke it directly when they speak of purges, ethnic cleansing, racial purity, and traitors in our midst."

  6. "There is a third possibility, however. Either party can break the escalating cycle of vengeance simply by refusing to participate in it. This is what is meant by forgiveness — it means the release of the desire and intent for those who have wronged you to suffer."

This is what Māori have done. Beginning at Parihaka, and continuing to this day. Pākeha who begrudge Māori the wholly inadequate compensation they've received so far ignore this.

  7. "The devil on the shoulder, not just of every oppressed Palestinian, but of every human being who has suffered injustice, whether political or in a marriage, job, or other relationship, speaks all the more persuasively the deeper the grievances. I’ve got one on my shoulder too, though he speaks in whispers as my grievances are light ... The name of this devil is Vengeance. His abode is Self-righteousness. And his nemesis is Forgiveness."

  8. "American doctors write every year around 120 million prescriptions for SSRIs, 118 million prescriptions for Adderall, Ritalin, and other ADHD medications, and 120 million for benzodiazepines."

    #CharlesEisenstein, 2023

Please do not lump in #ADHD medication with the psych drugs used to numb people to the reality of our surroundings. That's "not* what they're for. They help us to focus, and switch tasks, and do other things that neurotypicals take for granted.

  9. "... global warming (now called climate change) ..."

    #CharlesEisenstein, 2023

    charleseisenstein.substack.com

This is a misconception. One that's commonly brought up by contrarians as if this was a sneaky rebranding, and therefore a reason to distrust people who talk about climate change as a problem.

  10. "As for purpose, do we really need to produce more and more energy forever? Does it really contribute to human well-being? Bigger houses, more weapons, more stuff, the whole developmentalist technological program that separates us ever-further from life and matter… what does it serve? Ultimately, the “solution” to the ecological crisis is not technical. It comes from reclaiming basic values and changing our relationship to nature. "

    Preach.

  11. "We have instead to consider matters of scale and purpose. Scale: rooftop solar is different from utility-scale PV fields. Farm-based biogas reactors are different from industrial-scale monocrop biofuel plantations. Micro-hydro is different from mega-dams. In each case, the former fits into an ecological relationship to the specific beings, human and otherwise, of a place."

  12. "This video, along with companion pieces on the biotic pump and hydrology, comes from an emerging understanding among many environmentalists that we have made a scientific, strategic, rhetorical, and political error by reducing the ecological crisis to climate, and the climate crisis to carbon."

  13. An astonishing conversation about AI awareness, with #CharlesEisenstein.

“Artificial intelligence is therefore a partial intelligence, that is also a simulation of full intelligence. One mistakes it for full intelligence only if one believes that intelligence is nothing but operations on quantized data; that is, if one excludes the feeling dimension of existence from “intelligence.”

  16. Feeling a bit depressed. I just began reading the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible, by Charles Eisenstein. I found out he is now heavily involved in JFK Jr’s political campaign. It’s making me question all of his previous work. How do you handle it when someone with ideas that you find intriguing suddenly goes off the rails? Am I over reacting?

A lot of people tell me: Nothing will ever happen until it gets worse. Human beings need it that way.

    But I'm not convinced.
I have a lot of people around me who do their best since ages. But we were few.

By that time, a lot of people feel in their heart that change is inevitable. If every single one of us does all that they can and starts with themselves, we will turn the tide... (quite literally).

  19. "Fascism depends on a divided, mutually suspicious population willing to spy on one another, betray one another, and most simply and most importantly, stand by passively when one person or group suffers persecution because after all, it isn’t happening to me."

  20. ".... it didn’t take much for man after man to access deep grief, rage, shame, brokenness, forgiveness, joy, or peace. There weren’t just tears, there were wracking sobs that came from the depths of the soul. There weren’t just shouts; there were screams of rage that came from generations of pain. Men grieved what they had lost and what they had done, what they had inflicted and what they had suffered."

  21. "Credit and coins, [David Graeber] observes, bear one “spectacular distinction”: only the latter can be stolen. That is because coins (or paper money) are divorced from their origins, and therefore suitable to commerce among strangers. Aside from assurances of the coins’ purity, no trust is necessary to conduct a transaction. Credit, on the other hand, has no value once removed from its social matrix."

Mutual interdependence is an unavoidable reality people mask with money, contacts etc. Charles Eisenstein makes some really good points on that in his book 'Sacred Economics'.
