The Right Is Winning. Here’s How We Change That | Aaron Bastani Talks to Ash Sarkar
"What can be learned from Zohran Mamdani’s win in New York? Does the left hate Britain? What do we need to do, in order to establish a ‘majority rule’? And is there such a thing as a middle-class dog?"

Consider these 2 basic ways of advocating for something on ethical grounds;
1) You should feel bad for not doing Z.
2) Doing Z would help you out in these ways, and make the world marginally better in these ways. How can I help?
Which one do you think creates more change? Especially among people not already committed to the ethical framework driving your advocacy.

Change making is grounded in action. However, that action can take unexpected forms.
Change making is not limited to political activism.
- It is about your intention to help create a better world, and allowing right action to flow from there with no expectations.
- It is about the space from which you set about creating the world you want to see today, in your everyday life.1/3

As a #ChangeMaker, how do you work in the face of hopelessness? How do you swim against an overwhelming tide?
It is not as simple, or easy, as saying, "Choose hope."
You need to know why hope matters to you.
Hope is not an ideology. It is not something you simply believe in cerebrally. Such hope shatters under the terrible realities of terrible times.
Neither is hope a guarantee. It doesn't give you any more certainty or control over outcomes.

The greatest act of resistance is to be both:
- Centred in yourself, and
- Connected with more than yourself. From this space of what Daniel Siegel calls intraconnectedness, your most powerful contributions emerge.
-
Another thing your inner critic may say is, "How's taking the time to sense into things going to make a difference now?"
This is a long game. What we see happening in the world right now isn't something that can be changed with a blitz. This will take decades of work, optimistically speaking.
This is a change you and I will likely not see within our lifetime. So, in a sense, we are not doing it for you, or I, but for the younger, and future generations.

When I sense into the field of the community I wish to support, I feel the tension of:
- Wanting to make a difference, somehow, yet
- Feeling stuck, and frozen in shock, horror, and overwhelm. It may sound counterintuitive, but, if this is you, start with you.
Your inner critic may cry, "How's starting with me going to change the world?"
The space from which you approach helping anything, or anyone, matters.

As a budding change maker:
- You start out knowing the change you want to see, but
- You may not yet be in a position where you can create the impact you want.It can be frustrating.
In this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2wLP0izeJE, Ira Glass called this the gap. He is speaking to creatives, but I believe #changemaking emerges from the same place as creative work.
And, as Ira says, the only way to close the gap is to do the work.

You need answers, and you want change now.
There is no arguing that time is of the essence. However, be sure to leap into action from a grounded space of awareness.
Speed without presence has the potential to fall flat, or worse, do more harm than good.
Check your #changemaking intentions.
- Are you leaping into action aligned with the needs of all?
- Or are you rushing because you feel overwhelmed, and what you really need is time, and space to centre yourself, and regulate? -
#Changemaking is an important part of your life, but it is only one part of your life.
There will be times when your work will demand a lot from you. However, that cannot be all the time. If it is, it's time for some tough questions.
- Why is change making taking over your life?
- Why are you neglecting other areas of your life?Your best work comes from a whole, and nourished self, and life.
What does wholeness look like for you? How are you nourished?
-
Q&A: I resonate with the idea of tuning into deeper sources of knowing to guide my #changemaking. How do I know if what I receive will work?
Working with Source is not about passively receiving sure-fire answers, though sometimes that does happen.
You are actively collaborating with an emerging potential to bring it into form.
- What are your responsibilities as a physical co-creator?
- How are you testing insights for fit, and alignment?
- What adjustments are needed? -
Your inspirations are mirrors:
- They tell a story about the person you feel you want to be, and why.
- They drop clues about the #changemaking work you feel drawn to do, and how you wish to accomplish it.Here are three of mine:
- Otto Scharmer, and colleagues: Change led by deeper awareness
- Starhawk: Power from within
- The Dalai Lama: Compassionate actionWho, or what, inspires you? What do they tell you about who you want to be, and what you wish to create in the world?
-
Q&A: What is #changemaking?
I define change making as anything anyone can do to help build a better world for all.
It's not reserved for a select few with qualifications, nor limited to big ideas at scale.
If you can do one small thing today to help build a better world, your contribution has the potential to ripple outwards. To others, and the future, in ways unseen.
How do you define change making? What fears or limiting ideas hold you back from stepping into change making?

#writerscoffeeclub 7/2 Complete this phrase. I write because..
I write because I write.
Because changing one mind is better than sitting on my arse.
Because even though I know intellectually that most of the people I need to reach don't read, or don't read often, and probably won't like my stuff anyway, I can't accept it emotionally.
Because I believe that one hand writing in an ever-increasing ai-obfuscating forest of dross can still be heard. -
It's exhausting, isn't it? When you dare to think about it.
The everything of it. The times you live in.
What if changemaking legends of leadership aren't famous campaigning names on the telly, they're just people who've gotten out of their own heads long enough to have a go at a crazy idea, to respond?

Honoured to be asked to facilitate this psychological safety talk for the hospitality industry on 23 January.
They've got a fantastic panel of leading hospitality changemakers.
If you're in the hospitality industry - fresh-faced or experienced - this looks to be a good event to be at, thanks to the lovely folks at Rest for Restaurants and @oddduckwp
