  1. Is anyone else struggling to put freezes on their kids’ credit after the #ChangeHealthcare security failure?

A company — of whom I’m not a customer and didn’t even know of — handled my 2 & 6 year old’s SSNs and PII negligently, and so now the best option I have (I guess?) is to send their birth certificates & SSN cards (and mine) to 4 other companies of whom I’m also *not a customer*. The only reason I can is due to the FCRA.

What a brilliant example of American Corporate Capitalism at work.

  2. It’s been a while since I laughed as hard as when I received (yesterday) a #changehealthcare advertisment in the mail. I actually care about my colleagues and would never intentionally do something that cruel to them.

It was good for a laugh. And some private dunks on the complete lack of self-awareness one must have to make that pitch. How much does one want to bet they change their name before 2026 arrives?

  3. This is what I got this morning when I tried to log into my (previous) #healthInsurance company's website (which uses #Optum's "Healthsafe ID" for authentication) after 9am to submit a claim from last month (before we switched to new insurance).
It's of course a 🤡-show that Optum can't keep a mission-critical website up during business hours, and a double 🤡-show when they've got a bogus "test" email address displayed in the error message.
Par for the course for Optum, eh?

  8. Awesome, a year after the #ChangeHealthcare #ransomware hack I get a letter that I'm among the 190 million people who had their medical, billing, and personal info taken.

  9. #Posteo:
    "

  10. Newly released figures suggest the scale of the 2024 Change Healthcare cyberattack is far larger than initially estimated. Around 190 million individuals are thought to have been affected.

The new estimate is almost double the previous figure of 100 million, according to a statement from UnitedHealth Group.

  11. I was just informed (a year after the event) that I, and 100 million of my friends were affected by the Change Healthcare data "breach."

I'm wondering when that $1,000 check will be arriving, that I demand for every time my data is compromised by a company I have never agreed to do business with?

Or, at an absolute minimum, a lifetime of paid credit monitoring.

With this one - nada y nada y nada.

    It is beyond infuriating.

  12. The strangest thing happened: I received a letter from a health insurance company saying I overpaid for a prescription, and they sent me a check for the overpayment!

The prescription was filled during the Change Healthcare debacle, so I'm guessing something didn't process correctly due to the outage.

  13. Just got our first Change HealthCare data breach notification letter.

Wow what hot garbage. Poorly written, tortured read and devoid of specifics on what _real_ impact might be.

Two more years of free credit monitoring, oh joy, now I’ve got 5 services active.

  14. $UNH’s #ChangeHealthcare unit paid a big ransom—its IT was as weak as a kitten.

February’s huge #UnitedHealth #ransomware hack is now confirmed as the U.S.’s biggest ever #healthcare breach. As you might recall, the scrotes got in via simple credential reuse—there was no #MFA to stop them.

Change Healthcare? More like Change CISO, amirite? In #SBBlogwatch, we wonder why Steven Martin is still in post. At @TechstrongGroup’s @SecurityBlvd: securityboulevard.com/2024/10/

  15. #UnitedHealth says #ChangeHealthcare hack affects over 100 million, the largest-ever US #healthcare data #breach
In May, CEO Andrew Witty warned during a congressional hearing that "maybe a third" of all American's health data was exposed in the attack.
Today, US Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights data breach portal updated total number of impacted people to 100M.
#UHG attributed cyberattack to #ALPHV/#BlackCat, #Russia-based #ransomware and extortion gang

  16. Change Healthcare updated its report to #HHS this week, changing its "marker" report in July of 500 patients affected to 100,000,000 patients affected.

It's not clear to me whether that is the final report on the number affected or if it is just an updated interim figure with a lot more to come. I've emailed Change to inquire and will update this if I get a reply.

In the meantime, if you need a refresher on what happened with this incident and the current situation with the incident, read @zackwhittaker report on @TechCrunch

  17. Happy #ChangeHealthcare #breachNotification to all who celebrate!
We got ours yesterday. When did you get yours?
There's too much for alt text, so I've posted a PDF with text at drive.google.com/file/d/1TcFGL.
(There are 4 more pages in the reply.)
This is the worst breach notification I've seen in a long time.
Of note: because Change Healthcare does everything badly, you have to call them to get the free credit monitoring; there's no way to do it online.

  18. #UnitedHealthGroup ups financial hit due to #ChangeHealthcare #cyberattack in Q2 earnings.

"I think in all honesty, we were a little optimistic in hindsight at the pace at which we thought people would come back in terms of flow through the system once it was reconnected," UnitedHealth CEO Witty told analysts.

  19. My #HealthInsurance company, #GEHA, was impacted by the #ChangeHealthcare #Ransomware attack; they were unable to send out EOBs or reimbursement checks for several months and had to implement a replacement process from scratch.
EOBs and checks started flowing again eventually via the new process. Alas, there's a problem: there's a bug in the system, and they're sending out some duplicate EOBs *and duplicate checks*.
How much do you suppose this will cost them?

  20. Medical-Targeted #Ransomware Is Breaking Records After Change Healthcare’s $22M Payout

#Cybersecurity firm #RecordedFuture counted 44 health-care-related incidents in the month after #ChangeHealthcare ’s payment came to light—the most it’s ever seen in a single month.

  21. #AndrewWitty, the #CEO of #ChangeHealthcare’s parent company #UnitedHealthcare Group, said that the stolen files include personal #health information and that 'maybe a third' of US citizens were affected by recent hack. During a hearing in the #Senate earlier on Wednesday, Witty said that it will likely take “several months,” before the company can begin notifying victims of the #databreach. techcrunch.com/2024/05/01/unit

  22. #UnitedHealth says #ChangeHealthcare hackers stole health data on ‘substantial proportion of people in America’
The health tech giant handles health data for about half of all #Americans
The admission that hackers stole Americans’ health data comes a week after a new hacking group began publishing portions of the stolen data in an effort to extort a second #ransom demand from the company. After paying $22 million to a Russia-based criminal gang called #ALPHV in March.

  24. Welp, I'd thought my family wasn't impacted by the #ChangeHealthcare attack, but it turns out it's why my #healthInsurance company isn't mailing out EOBs or displaying them on their website. "#GEHA is actively working on a contingency plan to restore both provider and member payment processing as well as access to impacted member and provider documents," they say. No ETA given for when that contingency plan will take effect. *sigh* #infosec #cybersecurity #ransomware #healthcare

  25. #UnitedHealth brings some #ChangeHealthcare #pharmacy services back online
UHG is largest American #healthinsurance company, and its subsidiary, #Optum Solutions, operates Change Healthcare. Change Healthcare operates largest payment exchange platform between #doctors, #pharmacies, #healthcare providers, and patients in US. They suffered #ransomware attack by #ALPHV/#BlackCat, causing extensive outages after servers were encrypted and the company shut down its IT systems.
