Between early June & 15 Aug 24, Min. of Health of India reported 245 cases of acute encephalitis syndrome including 82 #deaths (CFR 33%). Of these, 64 are confirmed cases of Chandipura virus (CHPV) infection. CHPV is endemic in India, with previous outbreaks occurring regularly. Current outbreak is largest in past 20 years. Desde junio de 2024 hasta el día de ayer se notificaron 148 casos de encefalitis, 140 de ellos en el estado occidental de #Gujarat, de los cuales 59 murieron, informó en un comunicado el Ministerio de Salud y Bienestar Familiar.

"The virus can induce #encephalitis, or brain inflammation, which swiftly advances to severe neurological symptoms," she says and adds that since the Chandipura virus has no specific antiviral treatment, supportive care is essential but frequently insufficient in severe cases.
