@m Wikipedia to the rescue! I see that guy was Paul Kane, an ICANN insider, through Internet Computer Bureau which he sold to Afilias for US$70m; that a complaint has been lodged on behalf of the Chagos islanders, but Mauritius is now claiming jurisdiction which may complicate matters further...

@grifferz I knew the disgraceful history of British #EthnicCleansing in the #Chagos islands for the US base at #DiegoGarcia, but had no idea about the .io #domain so thanks for this post.

Thanks too @cariad for the informative article (I'm surprised you've subsequently chosen a .io instance?) I love the idea of redirecting domain proceeds to the #Chagossian people...
