While I'm still figuring out where my next multi-leg journey will take me, I thought: why not see if the Cessna 172 can fly over Mauna Kea? Its service ceiling is 14,000 ft, and Mauna Kea stands at 13,803 ft.

So, I packed some oxygen and took off. After a wide circle around the volcano and the slowest climb of all time (100–200 ft/min), the altimeter maxed out at 15,000 ft, leaving me with a comfortable margin over the summit.

With this small leg, I've finished my trip, which took me all the way from San Diego up the US West Coast (and a bit of Canada) to the western tip of the Aleutians. All in all, that was about 4,500 nm (8,300 km) with plenty of amazing impressions.

After takeoff, I went over a small mountain range, which required an extra loop in the old Cessna to gain enough altitude.

After that, I followed the rivers down to the Pacific coast, where I chose one of the available grass strips for landing.

A calm day with barely any wind. In the evening, a few hot air balloons took to the sky. Just before sunset, I touched down in Roseburg with the trusty Cessna 172.

Flew a Talon around Reunion and a Skyhawk around Antananarivo

I did a live weather flight around Reunion, soaring past Maïdo and Piton des Neiges before landing in Pierrefonds. I got a much better feel for the Northrop T-38 Talon (pretty dang small and nimble) as I struggled with it during a previous flight. I highly recommend both trying the freeware T-38 Talon and visiting Reunion. The combination of partly cloudy weather and the dramatic terrain of the island's interior made for an absolutely amazing flight.

I then visited Madagascar where I flew a Cessna 172 Skyhawk from Ivato to Avironimamo via Antananarivo. The weather was foggy, which forced me to fly closer to the ground in order to get a better look of the city. It's like an endless sprawl of small homes and apartments. As I flew southwest, the city turned to rural settlements against a backdrop of reddish earth. I came in high but I was able to burn off enough speed to correct for that. I then parked it next to another plane on the apron. Another happy landing.

Shoutout to @erkhyan for recommending the surprisingly beautiful flight.

This is the 2nd time it happened. Got a Diamond upgrade ahead of time for the O'Hare Hilton after booking a runway view. I appreciate the suite upgrade but I really want that runway view, had to call for the "downgrade". Too much of an airplane nerd ;)
