#Highway17 near #KeatingX Road will be closed in both directions for one final time on Wednesday, Aug. 7 as crews work on the overpass project.

The #PatBayHighway will be closed between Tanner Road and Island View Road Wednesday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., marking the last of three closures, to allow for work on a new overpass. Crews will be placing the steel bridge girder across the highway. During the closure, drivers will be redirected through a nearby detour along #CentralSaanich Road.

Drivers can expect delays of up to 20 minutes and are asked to choose alternative routes when possible. Vehicles with a width greater than 2.6 metres are not allowed on the detour and must use alternate routes.

#CentralSaanich police are warning the public after a large #cougar was reported in the municipality this week.

The cougar was seen in the 7300 block of the Pat Bay Highway, near Mount Newton Cross Road, at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

The District of #CentralSaanich says #ButterfieldPark will soon grow to nearly double its current size once it finishes purchasing an 18-acre parcel of land.

On Friday, the municipality said it had negotiated an agreement to purchase 18 acres of land at 1124 Mount Newton Cross Rd., which borders Butterfield #Park, at a cost of $3.2 million.
