I am soooo rubbish at diy but just for lack of wonga I do what I can .Drained the central heating this morning (the drain tap is mercifully outside),put cleaning solution in the system and will drain again in a couple of days & add inhibitor. I'm never confident with this s*** but hell I at least did it whilst making sounds like Zilly from Stop the pigeon. #CentralHeating

Any clever #CentralHeating folk out there?

We have a Logic Combi Esp30 boiler.

The digital display is showing c and the burner light keeps coming on.

However we have turned our thermostats off. The downstairs thermostat was set to 18degC but registering 22degC with radiators going full whack.

Upstairs was set to 18degC, registering 18degC but even turning the temp up wasn't warming the radiators.

Any idea how we can work out WTF is triggering it?

My review of our first month or so with the heat pump providing central heating.

It was fully dark by the time we moored a mile upstream at the head of navigation at #Horstead #lock

We plan to get down to #Wroxham #Bridge tomorrow and the return to our #mooring.

Funny, in NZ when we talk about heat pumps we typically mean a heat exchange unit that blows warm (or cold!) air into a room, but in the UK they mean central heating that pumps hot water through the pipes and radiators of an entire house! https://www.bbc.com/news/business-67511954

This isn't a chocolate fountain - it's rust sludge.

We got a magnetic filter added to the central heating system last week. This is it after just 30 minutes, then 2 hours later (after cleaning it), then 2 more hours.

I suspect it will be running much more smoothly after this.

Out with two old hot water tanks and in with one new one! Heat pump ready! And with a working immersion heater for dumping spare solar power!

Heating guy guessed the old unclad one might have been in there since the 70s and was, rather worringly, sludgy inside - he reckons the coil had split. Remember kids, never drink from the hot tap! #centralheating #hotwater

I did more baking today; mini rolls made with a sourdough focaccia dough, with a wash off maple syrup (& water) and sesame seeds.

These are for my friends here, who will be leaving for Switzerland on Wednesday, to overwinter in a house with central heating and proper insulation.
These are rolls for the road. I'll freeze them when they've cooled off sufficiently and take them out when my friends leave.

Some of you may remember that we had our gas supply removed in April. That action set a deadline: we had to find another heating solution before the coming winter.
We now have that solution:
Our home is all-electric, generates more solar power than we consume, and we will use air conditioning as heating this winter.
Heat pumps are too large. We needed something that was less powerful and which would consume less power.
It was quite a DIY job.

My dad started thinking about the #EnergyTransition for a long time. My parents built my family home themselves in 1988. This was common then. The property has (had) an #oil #centralheating system.

Already 20 years ago, my dad had drawn up plans to make the property suitable for a #solar powered #heatpump taking advantage of #geothermal temperature gradient..

The goal was to reduce the "Vorlauftemperatur" or "pre temperature". This was necessary to enable the shift to a #heatpump.

Anyone have any experience running solar thermal and/or heat pumps on private water supplies (i.e: low pressure)? Can it be done and is just less efficient? Did you *need* an accumulator to raise the pressure? #renewables #heatpump #solarthermal #solar #greenenergy #centralheating

Reckon I should probably turn the thermostat down on the underfloor heating there actually. Either that or my dodgy 1wire sensor wiring might need a looking at. #centralheating #homeautomation

The larger refectory in the castle of the Teutonic Order at Malbork in Poland.
The largest castle—by area—in the world, the extravagant arch vaulting of the roof is both beautiful and eye-catching, but it’s not the only remarkable thing in shot.
Just visible in the floor at the bottom of shot is a six by six grid of white squares containing dark circles. These are the hot air outlets, part of the castle’s “hypocaustum” or central-heating system, which channeled air heated over hot rocks through stone conduits under the castle floors.

Can anyone help with a #CentralHeating question (UK system)?

Due to character limits, description will be in a reply. It's puzzling the heck out of us - and running our boiler waayyy more than in needed.

Thermostat is a Honeywell CM907. Boiler is a Logic Combi ESP30. Both are about 7 years old. Boiler was fully serviced in December 2022.

Our property is 3 levels - thermostats on top & bottom levels only. Radiators throughout the house.

Finally got the 1wire sensors rigged up to the central heating. Immediately noticed water temp was WAY too high, so dropped that. But now it's very clear that this old (oil fired) boiler is WAAAY overpowered (and doesn't do modulation). Cycling like mad. Going to get it serviced and tuned as low as poss, but think we're going to need a buffer tank/thermal store of some kind. Would be something of use to a future heat pump install anyways. #homeautomation #centralheating

@GreenFire I'm unlucky that my home built in 2019 has #MainsGas. The developers were cheapskates & installed a gas boiler for the #CentralHeating & a gas hob for cooking. I've installed #solar panels & batteries but I'm paid less per kWh of electricity exported than I pay per kWh of gas imported. Most new properties in my area are not on the gas main & have a #GroundSourceHeatPump installed from new. Without a #GovernmentScheme a #HeatPump conversion is unaffordable to me. #UK is maddening.

I've had two hours' sleep cos my frost protection thermostat on my boiler kicked in so the house is boiling.

I'm so worried about how much this is gonna cost me in gas - I want to switch if off but I obvs don't want my pipes to burst.

We went to Edinburgh and put the heating on #eco. Didn't think it would take so long to heat up when we got back despite remotely turning it on around an hour from home #lichfield

Does anyone know why #CentralHeating (UK, no AC) is only ever on/off?
It'd be nice if it could get the house up to temperature, and just keep the heating at the right level to keep it there, instead of ALL THE HEAT, freezing, ALL THE HEAT, freezing.
Would also make the radiators nice and comfortable!
