My dog wakes me up at 3 a.m.

I, of course, am frustrated. This has been going on for a week, and I am racking my brain for a solution. As I’ve mentioned in an earlier blog posts, I am trying to seek God first before I try to solve problems on my own.

So I spend some time in prayer, centering down and trying to remain calm so I can get back to sleep. And I hope that perhaps a solution will reveal itself to me in time.

Then I wonder if I should just Google: my dog wakes me up at 3 a.m.

As I am wont to do when I have a problem, the first thing I do is I go to Google for the answers. Now there is nothing wrong with googling something. It is nice to have such a repository of knowledge readily available.

But I got to wondering: is Google now my go-to for answers rather than prayer?

That is indeed a good question.

And I guarantee it is one that Google does not have the answer to.

  3. I'm elated to find this at #Contemplative Outreach today: The full 100-lesson _Spiritual Journey_ program (free).

"The Spiritual Journey Series ... is the foundation of the teaching legacy of Fr. Thomas Keating (1923-2018), who was one of the principal architects of the #CenteringPrayer movement. ...

"We are called to this journey not just for our own personal growth, but also for the sake of the whole human community."

  4. I was set onto a #contemplative path at Union Theological Seminary in NYC in 1993. A wise acquaintance pulled Thomas Keating's _Open Mind, Open Heart_ off the bookstore shelf and said, "I think this is for you."

She was right. I went on to encounter Cynthia Bourgeault, whom I've acknowledged as my primary teacher for the past 12 years.

Grateful to be back after a pandemic Dark Night.

Here's Cynthia at her best: 💖🙏🏼

  5. @juglugs Another form of prayer doesn't involve words at all. One simply... becomes receptive, in case there is anything to be received. In so doing, one hones one's capacity for receptivity. The #CenteringPrayer that #ThomasKeating spoke so much about is like this.

Nowadays: Raving about tools in general and in particular. Taking online courses (like Nick Milo's Linking Your Thinking Workshop). Diving into novels (loving Barack Obama's recommendations). Reigniting /#meditation practice (#CenteringPrayer). Weightlifting and riding as an accidental masters athlete. (#CrossFit, ).

Life's tl;dr: Ultimately, what matters most is kindness. What matters most is connection. What matters most is love.
