"work for the dole" is not "work" … so… what should we rename it?
-
Hope you all had a good #census2026 night, #Australia!
-
@oysta reminds me of the long-running battles of the Wizard of Christchurch to avoid the census. He tried all kinds of things, like magically vanishing at midnight and rowing offshore in a small boat.

Haha fuckenell #census2026 doesn’t include an option for “people away at Uni” in the question about people who normally live with you

@winterknell Had the same issue in Firefox and had to enter our address manually. Thanks for tooting, I didn't even consider the possibility of it being a browser issue. Just blamed the ABS 😂 #Census2026 #Firefox

Just checked and there is no option for Rust, you’ll have to write that in #census2026

Where was I on the night of August 11 2021??? Why I was probably on Twitter waiting for the TikTok Guy to leak the latest NSW Health covid numbers of course

Hey those in #Australia have you remembered your #Census?
-
Census completed, two days early.
Tried to complete it in Firefox and it choked every time a few characters in when I was attempting to enter our address. I had to switch to Chrome to get the address selection to work. I could possibly have entered the address manually, but ours has an unusual canonical form that could introduce variables I'd rather not deal with.

I'd forgotten that I wrote Harry Potter and the Australian Bureau of Statistics some ten years ago, but since I'm getting AO3 kudos I'm guessing it's #census time again.
-
I remember in a recent census that there was a big public outcry about changes to privacy and linking records that people were concerned about; ultimately there was a call to just not complete the census, which is what I did. Now it seems like all those concerns have been memory-holed, but I haven't heard anything about the privacy issues actually being addressed. What's the go with the census this time? Have we all just given up worrying?

From the "Census — Not Religious? Mark 'No Religion'" campaign:
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has itself acknowledged that the #religion question used in the Census “may lead respondents to a particular response”.
But you don’t have to be tricked by the leading nature of the question. Mark ‘No religion’ if you’re not religious.👉 Find out more:
