  1. For the sixteeth are two map showing the watershed shortest walking route to the heavy rail stations in Britian. This uses @openstreetmap highway, road and path data for routing, scaled to show the number people who might take that path.

The first shows routes based on @WorldPopProject 1km² data
The second shows routes based on data from the UK

  2. These are also a fuzzy mess, and I need to get these on to a set of scalable map tiles or similar. But it has taken three months to get the shortest path code to work in anything approximately equal to a reasonable time, so this is all I've currently got.

  3. I wonder how much of my life I have spent trying to match census data to find that I am using the wrong census Output Area geography because it is the old 2001/2011 geography for a 2011/2021 dataset.

  4. The ONS continues to analyse the data from #census2021 & publish interesting stuff

Here's a link to attitudes of young people about the future & their prospects.

You'll not be surprised to see that rates of optimism track household income levels, but perhaps more heartening is despite everything pessimism remains a relatively minority issue.

This may be the joyous optimism of the young before it has met the brick wall of reality, but lets hope they retain some if it

  7. The code to create projected 2021 Census data onto a set of layered hexagon is here

Mea culpa as I had forgotten to push it to github

  8. Surely this is going to be going up against the very fringes of identifying information for individuals?

📊🤓Calling all UK data nerds. From today, there's an exciting new way to get #Census2021 data for any set of variables you like.

Use the @ONS "Create a custom dataset" tool to build your own multi-variate tables (for England & Wales).

  9. The #census2021 results show an increase in the non-religious especially in Wales where 46.5% ticked non-religious (compared to 37.2% overall) and 66% of 27 year olds ticked that box (compared to 53% overall).

Time to reform our Christian-centric laws?

  10. A good (if small) start: the ABS has acknowledged the concerns raised by many (including the NSL, who were part of the "Census21 - Not Religious?" campaign) during a recent review of the Census over the 'leading' wording of the question on religion and the potential for bias (inaccuracy) in the data. #Census #Census2021 #AusPol

Nerdy #census2021 question: does anyone know if age-standardised proportions are available for electoral wards/MSOAs for the general health and disability questions?

  12. Today the Office for National Statistics #ONS is releasing #Census2021 data on Ethnicity, Age and Sex in England and Wales.

As part of our project with #IrishInBritain we will be examining how the #Irish population has changed: watch this space!

Meanwhile, our previous analyses of #census2021 data are here: irishinbritain.org/what-we-do/

  13. I'm reading the #statistics from the #Census2021 data in the UK, particularly for the area we lived in ie #Havering

We couldn't move back there. We experienced a LOT of #racism and #homophobia

As my partner is #Asian racist graffiti started to be sprayed over the bus stop we used to wait at. To make matters worse, the bus company refused to take it down.

  14. That anyone would suggest the numbers of #bisexual people represented in the UK #Census2021 would be bumped up by people "saying they're bisexual to seem interesting" is more than a little amusing, given that it's a sodding Government survey that doesn't publicly identify anyone. Hardly much opportunity to make a public performance out of it, is there
