Working on a birthday card for my sister-in-law now, the design is done and next up is the transfer it to a card.

I did decide to redraw the design for my brother's card. It's now transferred to the actual card and all I need to do is colour it (so this is quite well in advance, his birthday is in April).

I had done a proof of concept of a design with my own initial in it, which I'm quite pleased with. Particularly the gold paint on the initial, which I bought years ago to do a fancy label for a Golden Wedding present for my in-laws, so it's nice to find another use for it (and now I've bought a silver paint and another colour of gold paint as I have the excuse for more supplies).

I've got a couple of unfinished Celtic knots as well, this one might end up as a birthday card for my brother (who doesn't follow me on Mastodon so won't see this) but I'm trying to work out whether the fact that the initial isn't centred bugs me enough to re-do it or if it's one of those imperfections that make it clear a human drew this. The fact I'm dithering probably indicates I need to re-do it to be honest.

Another Celtic knot design midway through. I've drawn this out on graph paper and I'm yet to transfer it to nice paper. I'm not entirely happy with the outer border as I was a bit sloppy when drawing it, but really this is a proof of concept and I can't tell if the central motif of an initial woven into the knot will actually work once coloured or if it'll just look like a mess!

I also played around with sprinkling and burnishing foil on the leather. I really like the effect but not sure that it's right for this design.

I did finally get a version of the Celtic knot I'd been trying to draw for the last week that I'm happy enough with to call it done!

I still haven't finished the Celtic knot that was in progress last week, but it's not in a photograph friendly unfinished state (I coloured it twice, I hated both of them).

So instead have the one I did once I got fed up of that one!

I don't often have drawing WIPs, because I tend to draw small pieces and finish them up in one or two sessions. But this is one that's taken a while so far – this is the fourth or fifth attempt. Basically I did one big Celtic knot using Welshpixie's tutorial, then treated the two edges of the strand as different strands going over & under at opposite points. And every time I tried to start inking in the lines I got it wrong. I eventually drew it out on graph paper with more construction lines and then inked that in and got it right. Then traced it and transferred to nice paper … where I promptly got the inking wrong again. So I've transferred it again, and maybe this time I'll just colour it rather than ink the lines in and that might not fail?
