  6. Saw that Gary Numan is to be in celebrity Help! My house is haunted.
    1) I have no idea what that is (stopped watching TV some years back)
    2) Gary Numan was the only celebrity I recognised.

  7. CW: hot take on comedy shows hosts

    1.
I feel these talk show hosts like Jimmy Fallon, James Corden, etc. facilitate and encourage the whole celebrity worship thing. Whenever one of them arrives on stage or are being spoken about, the hosts make a big hue and cry as if they're war heroes and need to be celebrated.

All questions asked to them are those cute, happy questions that make people laugh or love them even more. No one asks them the hard, critical questions. They stoke the Hollywood glamorous tale.

It's an I kiss your ass; you kiss mine business! Their social capital also grows.

I still watch the shows- the jokes are really humorous. But when it comes to the interviews, it's horrifying.

    2.
I may be wrong, but the vast majority of them seem to be furthering the Liberal narrative, which is neither right nor wrong. To each their own. I'm not gonna lecture people on politics. But some 60 per cent of the show seems to be about this one-sided narrative.

Kimmel makes this a bit extreme. Every episode (literally every episode) spends 20-30 mins. on Donald Trump, as does Seth Meyers. Again, the jokes are really well-written usually. But it gets repetitive when you reuse the same material time and again.

And these shows are addictive as fuck. 😐

In this article for The Atlantic, Arthur C. Brooks does a bit of analysis in terms of seeing parasocial relationships as a type of avoidant behaviour.

    The term parasocial […]
