And this marks the end of my season 5 re-watch.

Season 5 review

🪩 For four seasons it never occured to me that Sonequa Martin-Green was wearing a wig. But this season it is so obvious from episode one. I think it's because she's got long hair now and that needs to be hidden under it. Super high resolution/ sharpness is not great for prosthetics and wigs and things like that. It takes me out if it so easily, which annoys me. I shouldn't concentrate on those things. However, on my re-watch I did not see it. Did they go back and retouched the scenes where it was really obvious?
🪩 Four seasons we got puzzle boxes and galaxy ending threats. This season we got… a literal puzzle (and a literal puzzle box) and a potential galaxy ending threat. sigh This remains a point in current Trek that I am pretty bored with. I love Discovery for so many things (the characters, the importance of connection and found family, love and kindness, and second chances), but this is not one of them.
🪩 Speaking of second chances. It just occured to me that not only did Burnham get a second chance, or Georgiou, or Rayner. The show itself got a second chance as well, by leaving the prequal prison and flying forwards in time.
🪩 I wished they would have made "Calypso" a dream that Zora has during her laying dormant. I wished they wouldn't have brought it back in the coda as a red directive mission. I know they wanted to make season 6 about it, and I am not mad that won't happen now. Not everything needs to be explained all the time. I wished writers would leave some things in limbo for us to spin our own stories. We still could do that anyway of course.
🪩 It's so unfortunate that Doug Jones, Emily Coutts, and Oyin Oladejo weren't available for most of the season. And Wilson Cruz for the coda.
🪩 I am so sad that we won't see Rayner again (at least not in more than a possible/ potential cameo/ guest appearance on Academy). He's such a great character. An antagonist, but a very likeable one. He has an arch that develops over the whole season. I love a character with an arch like that. At least we have the novels. I hope there will be more Discovery novels!
🪩 And with that I am also a bit sad that Callum Keith Rennie only got the chance to be great for one season. I would have loved to see more of him.
🪩 Did a crewmember whose name starts with a C die? My theory still stands though.
🪩 The deeper connection to Trek lore besides the main thing was nice: the Kellerun, the Breen, Kovich/ Daniels, Fred, selfsealing stembolts, and all the other little things.
🪩 Good-bye DISCO. You're a great show and I'm going to miss you.

It only took me months to finish my re-watch. I just couldn't bring myself to watch the last episode. I did not want it to end. But the great thing is, I can just start again from the beginning.

E10 Life, Itself

🪩 That bin is bigger on the inside. (Sorry, I had to.)
🪩 And it reminds me a bit of the library and portal of the TOS episode "All Our Yeserdays".
🪩 It looks really cool.
🪩 The strong wind that doesn‘t move hair.
🪩 One last opening title sequence.
🪩 Really enjoy that bridge scene. Everyone get‘s their part, it‘s bumpy, we‘re in the middle of it.
🪩 I really enjoy the shakey cam on the Discovery.
🪩 Michael, don‘t walk away from Moll! We all know she's going to do something unwise.
🪩 Whooo! Action Saruuuuu!!
🪩 I did not figure the riddle out, btw. My first thought was the same as Moll's.
🪩 The visual effects are so stunning! The ships at the two black holes is so beautiful! 🤩

🪩 I love a good montage. And this one of the crew is a good montage.

🪩 Book is such a good guy. And I like Moll.

🪩 Moll and L‘ak having this romantic moment while a guy is dying painfully next to them because they poisoned him is pretty macabre. Not liking it.

🪩 I am increasingly disliking these personal transporters. They are annoying me. It‘s silly having them tap them twice to plop to wherever. Just let them walk, please!

🪩 That exchange between Tilly and the very handsome guy was just cute. Cute! I love everything about his behaviour. 😍 I hope we will see him again in Academy.

🪩 „I love the feeling of interrupting something.“ That grumpy look. I love Rayner already. 🤣 Poor guy totally being the third wheel here.
🪩 How long did it take for Book to arrive on Discovery, sorting everything out, and them getting to Q‘mau. Must have been really quick if Moll and L‘ak only just arrived there too.

🖖 The influence Covid had on everything is very very visible and should always be kept in mind when we talk about this season.
🖖 The theme of how important empathy, compassion and communication is, is now more important than it even was 2 years ago. Listening is so so important. Listening carefully, asking questions if necessary, and not jumping to conclusions immediately or throwing a tantrum and being an asshole.
🖖 In that regard, this season was probably the most trek-y of them all.
🖖 I love the character development.
🖖 I love that some of the actors got a chance to do other projects during the season. That gave their characters a chance to develop even off screen, especially Tilly.
🖖 Lt. Christopher was a good replacement for Bryce though. He‘s got a C-name though and I am scared for him now.
🖖 Because the Cs being the new redshirts must be a thing, right? No-one commented on that at all, but I‘ll be watching the casualties’ names next season, that‘s for sure. 🧐
🖖 Has anyone counted the number of „uncertainties“ though? 🫣😇

🖖 There is a big sky light thing in the bio lab? Cool!
🖖 Tarka is a goddamned a-hole! Masks all fall one day, this was his time.
🖖 Poor Dr. Hirai! He was so enthusiastic to and talk to the 10-C and them Rillak makes him stay on the ship.
🖖 I really love the design of the 10-C and how they communicate. Truly alien.
🖖 Reno makes Disco better than it already is.

S4E13 Coming Home

🖖 Federation HQ is the coolest ass thing I‘ve ever seen. Warping through space like a spear?? Consisting of modules who are also warp capable?? 😎
🖖 Tilly is back! Her hair is looking much better than earlier this season.
🖖 Great cut between Tilly in Federation HQ to Burnham on the Discovery.
🖖 The presto chango button. (I find it funny.)
🖖 Phew! Of course Book came around. He‘s a good man. ❤️
🖖 Even though Tarka is that selfish, arrogant a-hole I still felt sad for him and loved that Book held him for a bit.
🖖 T‘Rina — bad ass woman.
🖖 I still like the spore jump effect. It‘s cool.
🖖 General Ndoye going into her mission in her full uniform. 😭
🖖 Michael after book‘s transport signal disappeared! 😭
🖖 „My mom and I didn‘t have an easy relationship at all, but I always knew she loved me.“ 😭
🖖 I love those moments in Federation HQ between Vance and Tilly.
🖖 „He was my ‚one‘.“ 😭😭😭
🖖 Good speech from Book.
🖖 Saru and T’Rina — they‘re holding hands! 😍
🖖 When I first watched this episode I got the feeling from all the build up they were doing, that the president of Earth must be someone special. Either a character we know or an actor. I was expecting something big. But then the shuttle door opened and I was like „Who‘s that?“. 🤣 Did I have to know that person?? She clearly was not an experienced actor. But who was she then??? I had to do an internet search to find out who she was. So yeah, that did not have any special impact on me unfortunately. Cool gesture and message for sure! I wished they would have chosen someone that had a more global impact and message, though. But Star Trek still is an American tv show, isn‘t it. 😉
🖖 Anyway, ending with an image of Earth showing an unusual angle was cool. Or am I missing something here too? 😅

🖖 Tarka is an arrogant ass and he knows it. Doesn‘t make him less human (you know what I mean) or less worthy of our compassion. Because compassion is what distinguishes good people from bad ones.

🖖 The looks and words between Book and Michael when they were the only ones left at the game. 🥺
🖖 Ahhh, I like Rillak. She‘s cool.

🖖 Nhaaaaan!! It‘s so good to have her back. If only for one episode. „Yum yum!“
🖖 Also, I need this eyeshadow now. Rillak is wearing it, Nhan is wearing it. Must be quite en vogue in 3190.
🖖 Oh sweet sweet Saru! ❤️ Him talking to T‘Rina was so sweet. And his advice seeking from Culber is even sweeter.

S4E06 Stormy Weather

🖖 Gray alone in the lounge, starting to talk to Zora is a great scene. It‘s the scene we never got in TNG, where the civilians must have felt similar.
🖖 Dr Pollard! ❤️
🖖 Ensign Cortez (the poor guy)! It is the Cs! They are the new red shirts. Has anyone documented this somewhere? Is that only in Discovery or in other shows as well? Am I on to something here? … OMG! 😱 Culber died too!
🖖 „You bore witness. That is something.“ A very important thing, bearing witness! (One of my top favourite Doctor Who episodes is „Demons of the Punjab“, which I was reminded of by Saru‘s statement.)
🖖 I love a good walk down the corridor in slow motion before battle. 😎 And sparks. 💥
🖖 Great scene between Book and Saru at the end. And great scenes between Book and his father.

S4E07 …But to Connect

🖖 „We always mean well to ourselves. The problem is what that means for others.“
🖖 Communication and diplomacy are important in normal times. And they are even more important in not normal times. Even more important. Because it is in those not normal times where they are needed the most.
🖖 Who exactly got invited to this assembly? Who has the right to vote? Why does Michael have a right to vote? Is she speaking for Starfleet? 🤨 I‘m confused.
🖖 Oh the heartbreak! 💔 I am fully on Michael‘s side of the argument. But damn that was hard for her to do.
🖖 First glimpse into Tarka‘s story. Another heartbreak.
🖖 Saru ❤️ T‘Rina, and her looks at him are wonderful.
🖖 The whole thing with Zora was great. I loved that mediation session. Well written and well executed.
🖖 That Book leaves Grudge with Michael is saying so much. I love that. I love that they never stop loving each other through this whole thing, and that Michael never gives up on Book.

S4E04 All Is Possible

🖖 I love how Culber says to Tilly: „Go, get inspired!“
🖖 Grey being so confident is such a contrast to Adira. I like how he literally pushes them out into the world to explore without him.
🖖 Hoo boy, poor Tilly. Tough assignment she‘s got there. Very Galileo 7, is it not? Poor Lt. Callum.
🖖 Are the Cs the new red shirts? 🧐 We had Connor, Connolly and now Callum who all died rather quickly. One of them even twice.
🖖 T‘Rina ❤️ Saru
🖖 Love the Enterprise love!
🖖 The thing between Book and Culber is so good. I love that Book‘s grief is coming in waves. I love that it‘s not gone yet. I love everything about it even though of course it breaks my heart. I love how very slowly there seems to be some understanding growing between the two.
🖖 On first watching this episode when it first aired, I didn‘t like the whole Tilly and the cadets bit. But now I do. I really like the cadets and wished we could see more of them. But too much time may have passed. I still hope we‘ll meet them again in the Academy show. I want to know where they are now.
🖖 Ok, confession time: This is the first time I really rolled my eyes on the fact that it‘s Michael who is the centre of it. Is there no other person suitable to be on this committee? It‘s important to me that you don‘t get me wrong, Michael is one of my favourite characters, she‘s the centre of the show, she‘s the hero, love it. But I wished that for once the writers wouldn‘t have made her the solution here.
🖖 „Articles of the Federation“ is one of my top favourite Trek novels and I LOVE that we get the president of the Federation and the politics around her in a show more than ever before. I enjoy Rillak and T‘Rina and their maneuvering so much.

S4E05 The Examples

🖖 USS Janeway!!! NSS T‘Pau!!! 🤩
🖖 Tarka‘s entrance is something. LOL I like the character and the actor. He‘s a pompous ass. But I like when things get disturbed and feathers are ruffled.
🖖 I like how they inserted Reno here and wished they had found a way to do more of it earlier and before she comes back later this season.
🖖 Michael dressing that magistrate down 👌
🖖 Somehow I‘m not sure what to say about the Examples themselves. Other than that Felix (and his actor) impressed me. He has this grace and calmness, or groundedness, about him that I really admire. I would like to able to live that too one day.
🖖 Tarka you calculating and manipulating ass. I‘ll never forgive you that.

S4E02 Anomaly

🖖 I like that they talk about gravitational waves.
🖖 Such a beautiful moment between Tilly and Saru.
🖖 What‘s up with Tilly‘s hair? It‘s suddenly longer only a few hours later, at most.
🖖 Soong namedrop. No Trek show without a Soong. 😆
🖖 Michael’s quarters are life goals.
🖖 Tilly‘s hair is indeed all over the place.
🖖 Why does Michael give the command on when to hit the wave? She‘s not the surfer.
🖖 An unpredictable adversary like this anomaly is really scary.
🖖 Have I mentioned before how much I love the costumes in this show?

S4E03 Choose to Live

🖖 Momma Burnham is back, yay! I like her. What about a Qowat Milat book set in the 32nd century?
🖖 I love Tilly this episode.
🖖 Wait a minute… One scene we say hello to Guardian Xi (Hi 🤗), and when we come back to sick bay the thing has already happened? We didn‘t even see it start? I remember a scene where Xi is standing between the two beds with one hand on Adira and one on Gray. Am I imagining things? This was not in the episode though. I‘m confused.
🖖 More awesome costumes.
🖖 Poor Stamets, he‘s having such a frustrating day.
🖖 😭 Book!
🖖 Hello and welcome back, Gray!
🖖 Watching this season again it‘s interesting watching Book. For so long it seems Michael and the others can bring him back and keep him safe. But it is working in him always and he will fall back eventually. Which will be hard to watch, but I like that they are doing it. The path through grief is not linear.
🖖 Michael‘s quarters are definitely life goals man.

S4E01 Kobayashi Maru

🖖 A very movie like beginning wirh Book‘s ship heading out, doing some moves, and heading towards that planet. All the while only this playful music playing.
🖖 Really good scene where a people voice their concerns about the Federation‘s intentions. We may know they‘re the good guys, but in their experience they are not.
🖖 Book and Michael‘s back and forth is always so fun to whitness.
🖖 In that chase that planet reminded me of the one in the new season 5 trailer… 👀
🖖 LOVE Adira and Stamets‘ personal „Warp particles“ Moment! 😁
🖖 I really like the look of the new uniforms. But I also like that cool leather jacket.
🖖 Awww, Book ❤️ Michael
🖖 Big day for Starfleet with the Academy opening again after 125 years.
🖖 Great intro to Laira Rillak.
🖖 Archer‘s Theme! 😢 One of my top favourite pieces of Stat Trek music.
🖖 Tilly‘s face when Rillak came on board! 😆

S3E13 That Hope is You, Part 2

🖖 Hello Gray! 😭 Tears and goosebumps moment.
🖖 Saru and Su‘kal‘s scenes are so beautiful.
🖖 Love this bridge crew!
🖖 I like that Adira‘s holo species is only painted on. As if the programme didn‘t have enough juice in it to make it „real“.
🖖 There‘s a whole city inside Discovery.
🖖 „She‘s a queen!“ 🐈‍⬛
🖖 Great fight between Ossyra and Michael.
🖖 Nothing like a mad switching of chips/ discs from their slits into another to save the ship. 😆
🖖 Finally we get to see Disco’s warp core — and engine room! After three seasons!
🖖 What a weight Su‘kal has to carry! 😭
🖖 Bill Irwin is wonderful in that role!
🖖 Lt. Sahil!! I loved to see him again. Such a beautiful scene.

Season 3

🖖 Seeing Michael as Captain sit in the chair was absolutely wonderful.
🖖 I totally accept the reason for the Burn and the 125 (or so) year old Su‘kal. I totally accept a non-corporeal Gray. I am watching Star Trek after all. That‘s what I‘m here for.
🖖 I wished they didn‘t make Saru suddenly and seemingly out of the blue struggle with his emotions so much during the last few episodes. I think all this wasn‘t necessary at all to explain his wish to take care of Su‘kal for a while.
🖖 That said, I enjoyed this season a lot. I think it was the most coherent of the three.
🖖 Love all the new characters.
🖖 OMG and all the costumes are simply stunning! If I could I would have Gersha Phillips and her team be my personal tailors.
🖖 The actors are simply fantastic. So so good! Great characters portrayed by amazing actors wearing stunning costumes working in beautiful sets enhanced by gorgeous vfx. This show is a feast for the eyes. 😍

S3 E11 Su‘kal

🖖 Papa Stamets is mad at Gray. 😆❤️
🖖 Those in-badge tricorder projections are looking weird coming from that one point on the breast.
🖖 That wink Book gives! 🫠
🖖 The Verubin nebula is beautiful! Love the homage to Vera Rubin too.
🖖 In the projection, at first that planet looks a bit like the Death Star thanks to that first crater, doesn‘t it.
🖖 Great scene between Stamets and Culber about the latter going on that mission.
🖖 I love the friendship between Tilly and Burnham.
🖖 Tilly in the chair! Loved the whole scene, including the Trek fanfare.
🖖 Where can I get Michael‘s awesome red coat? 😍 Love that she‘s Trill. (I love the Trill.) LOVE seeing Doug Jones without makeup.
🖖 Anyone else getting Labyrinth vibes from the room with the stairs?
🖖 OMG! Tilly! What a first day in the chair! You‘ve got this!
🖖 Su‘kal is so cute and the actor is great!
🖖 Beautiful scene between the elder and Saru. 🥺

S3E12 There is a Tide…

🖖 Vance is very cautious. I like that. The Federation has a lot to loose and he‘s making sure they don‘t.
🖖 I love seeing Book and Michael work together.
🖖 Kenneth Mitchell!
🖖 I really like Ossyra‘s necklace. That big crystal looks cool.
🖖 Ah, the apple scene. A classic ever since. Love it.
🖖 Tilly and the crew doing their thing and outsmarting the Chain. 💪
🖖 Vance is great. Though I don‘t understand why he‘s saying all these things to Ossyra. I understand how desperate the Federation is, but putting the Chain on a pedestal like he‘s doing? No, I don‘t agree.
I do love how he negotiates though. He‘s thorough and does not make dangerous compromises.
🖖 Ossyra showing her real face back on the Discovery. My heart breaks for Aurellio.
🖖 Ryn! Noooo! 😭
🖖 Michael making the hard call when she‘s shooting Stamets out into space. She‘s learned her lessons. She‘ll be an amazing captain.

S3E09 Terra Firma, Part 1

🖖 Time travel definitely gives me a head ache too. Wow. What? 🫨🤣
🖖 Love the Kelvin timeline shoutout and the TNG season 1 uniform.
🖖 Tilly is the best. ❤️
🖖 Don‘t be an ass to Tilly, woman! 😠
🖖 Saru getting a lesson. It‘s his learning season isn‘t it.
🖖 The conversation between Michael and Philippa in the gym made me think about the mirror universe and that I really like it. I don‘t need or even want to spend so much time in it. But the concept itself is the real interesting thing for me.
🖖 Loved the good bye scene between Saru, Tilly, and Georgiou. For reasons that have to do with my point above.
🖖 I love that Michael and Philippa‘s last outing together is another long walk through a landscape. In the pilot it was a desert, here it is snow.
🖖 The soup headline and the photo besides it in the newspaper should have given Carl‘s identity away right there, but when I first saw the episode I did not look at the newspaper, and so I remained clueless.
🖖 Georgiou‘s (or Michelle Yeoh’s) determined face after she realised what the door could mean is great!
🖖 I like Carl.
🖖 Loved the aerial silk show and scene.
🖖 I also love the costumes. And Georgiou’s hair cut.
🖖 Insane Michael is insane! Well acted, as always.
🖖 „Do not confuse growth with weakness.“
🖖 Georgiou‘s mind is racing all the time. She‘s doubting, and scheming. What an exhausting life!
🖖 This whole two parter is what I like about the mirror universe. The thought experiment of nature vs nurture. It‘s a fascinating question.
🖖 Does Owosekun have tears in her eyes?

S3E10 Terra Firma, Part 2

🖖 Oooh! A mirror opening credit! I like it.
🖖 Wow! That make up on Sonequa Martin-Green at the beginning, when she was in really bad shape, is great!
🖖 I am still as excited to hear and see the Guardian of Forever as I was when this ep first aired.
🖖 „I read the field manual.“ 😆 I loved that whole story line. I‘m a bit sad it was so short, though.
🖖 I want more about the Temporal Wars. Where are the books? 😜 The DTI books are already on my TBR though.
🖖 What I love about Trek stories, and many others too, is when they show how a bad guy can be turned and be redeemed. This is what a good story should be. Story is not reality. But it reminds us of our own compassion. We should show it more often. In reality.
So yes, Emperor Georgiou was a tyrant and a murderer. But she changed. And though that does not make her deeds undone, it makes her make different choices now. If she were a real person we shouldn‘t let her go. But this is a fictional story, which serves a different purpose, as I said above.
The last scene still seems a bit overboard in my opinion.
I will, however, miss Michelle Yeoh and her character, obviously.

🖖 Great conversation between Tilly and Michael.
🖖 Michael‘s look when she heard „Ambassador Spock“. 😊
🖖 That smile on Vance‘s face. Not only did he realise that Michael as Spock‘s sister was of great value in this situation. I think for the first time he acknowledges her value as a Starfleet officer with her persisting on what she thinks is the right thing to do. (At least that‘s my head canon now.)
🖖 😭 Spock! 😭
🖖 T‘Rina‘s dress is beautiful! I especially love the collar and the undershirt.
🖖 I really like the Qowat Milat. I want more stories with them. Books. There should be books.
🖖 Dr. B‘s clothes are cool too.
🖖 I love the talk between Tilly and Stamets in the spore chamber. 😆
🖖 I like the solution to the discussion, that Michael takes back her request in order to protect the still very fragile peace on Ni‘var.
🖖 „You know where to find me.“ 😭
🖖 So great how the bridge crew support Tilly. No infighting in Starfleet. (Except when Riker is involved. 🤣) It reminds me of the episode of Lower Decks where Rutherford tries to change divisions so he could spend time with Tendi. Everybody was cheering him on. I love that!
🖖 The budding romance between T‘Rina and Saru is so visible and sweet. I can‘t wait for season 5!

🖖 Ossyra is definitely bad news. I like her hair cut.
🖖 I am not a fan of the layer of latex (or whatever) on the Orion actors‘ faces though. It looks wrong.
🖖 Poor Linus. Always something with him.

🖖 Georgiou in the med bay is hilarious!
🖖 I love how Stamets is tending to Adira.
🖖 Detmer!!! 💪
🖖 Tilly went full XO/ personal assistant. Loved that.

🖖 The relief and excitement of the crew when entering the containment field — I felt it too.
🖖 They‘re such ship nerds. Love the Voyager J. And of course the USS Nog, Eisenberg class.
🖖 Georgiou and Kovich are a great pair.
🖖 Nhan is awesome only giving her name and rank.
🖖 Why did they not try to contact the people on the Tikhov first? Or did I miss that? Couldn‘t they do it because of the ion storm?
🖖 I would have loved to learn more about the Barzan here. I couldn‘t quite understand why Nhan couldn‘t get the man to open the vault for them.
🖖 Empathy is an effing strength! And Michael has empathy. Lots of it. ❤️

🖖 It‘s cool to see how the Disco crew gets updated. They‘re such nerds.

Also, Michael‘s been on her own, in a wild universe, and outside Starfleet for one year, which is a very long time. She‘s now used to a different way of solving problems. And then this is about Book. She‘s in love. Of course she‘s risking her career to rescue Book.

S3E03 People of Earth

🖖 Great reunion scene. I feel previous shows would not have stayed that long. This show is about the connections between people much more than any other Trek show. That‘s what makes it unique and special. 🖤
🖖 Having Michael be on her own for a whole year was another great decision. That way her character could change and grow without having to go through that on the show. It of course also gives the great opportunity to have her question her place in the world and discover more about herself.
🖖 I LOVE that they didn‘t make Michael and Book a couple before now. This also gives us the chance to see them fall in love. 😍
🖖 Captain Saru!
🖖 Love the hair, too!
🖖 Detmer‘s Look at Book! 😏
🖖 „A viewscreen. How quaint.“ A running gag needs running, I agree. 😜

To be honest, I have been a bit hesitant to start season 3. (Season 3?! 😱) Because it means leaving season 1 & 2 behind and I really liked them.

S3E01 That Hope is You, Part I

🖖 I want programmable matter. And I want an alarm clock like that. 🦜
🖖 What a great great sequence of Michael crawling out from under the rubble, understanding that her plan worked, and realising what it all really means. Goodness, Sonequa Martin-Green is so good. LOVED her acting of Michael’s emotional response and how she talked herself out of it and into action. She has saved all life, but has lost everyone and everything she ever knew. That‘s damn big. This is a great episode for her. For both, the actor and the character.
🖖 Burnham‘s look at Book while he wraps his handkerchief around her arm… and Ash seems suddenly forgotten. 🤣 I don‘t entirely blame her. (Don‘t tell Jordan I said that. 🤫)
🖖 Aditya Sahil is so precious. ❤️
🖖 I love feeling feelings. 😭
🖖 I always love when we get to see more than just Starfleet life.
🖖 I really love how sci-fi the design is. We are so used to warp drive and transporters, as if it was realistic. But programmable matter, man!! 🤯

🖖 Detmer‘s hair is suddenly quite a bit longer, isn’t it? They did spend a whole year in that wormhole. 🤣
🖖 I loved how during the ship’s roll the camera was moving from right left behind the captain‘s chair. Made for a great visual effect.
🖖 Don‘t let a person with a head injury walk to sickbay alone!!
🖖 Everyone is so busy, no one really sees what‘s up with Detmer. I don‘t blame them. They do have their hands full.
🖖 Georgiou is extra bitchy today.
🖖 Ew! Leland goo!
🖖 And they are back: my favourite bickering couple, Reno and Stamets.
🖖 I liked Kal and I hate that he got killed. Especially so horribly. 😢 I liked that alien design. I wanna see more of them.
🖖 How lucky for Georgiou that Zareh wanted to make it slow and didn‘t keep shooting her to death.
🖖 You know, there is a lot of crying in this show. By me. 😭😭

Unfortunately I can‘t watch the two animated Short Treks at the moment, as P+ gives me a 404 for both of them. I also think they are wrongly titled. German Trekkies, do you have the same problem with them? I might have to write an essay-mail and ask what‘s up there.

Season 2, general thoughts

🖖 People complain that there‘s a lot of crying in Discovery. People cry in that show, yes. Who ever cries in other Trek shows? Not a lot of people. And that is the actual problem.
People cry. All the time. I cry. And you cry probably too. Not showing it on tv is hiding a very normal and healthy reaction of the human body.
I don’t think there‘s a lot of crying on Discovery and certainly not in uncalled for situations. These people go through a lot and why shouldn‘t they cry? It shows that they are living, caring, feeling beings.
Also, Michael is not the only one crying, though she gets accused the most. Ash is crying a lot too and I am here for it! Let men cry on tv! Let them cry when they hurt. Not just physically but emotionally, like Ash. Or Culber and Stamets.
Plan for my next re-watch: keep a tally on crying. I bet the numbers will be way smaller than people want to make us believe.
🖖 Season 2 was a bit convoluted at times. E. g. I could not explain the signals to anyone, or when the Angel is Dr. B. and when it is Michael. Throwing in Control just adds to the complexity. How did Control turn sentient anyway? (No need to explain it to me though, thanks.)
🖖 But I think they came out of the bts shenanigans quite ok and taking the Disco into the far future was certainly the right decision.
🖖 This show continues to be one where the characters are discovering themselves more and more. They are becoming themselves, they are not yet there. This series is a journey.
🖖 Some people say there isn’t any chemistry between Michael and Ash. I think we‘re watching different shows. I love them together.
🖖 I said it in another post, but I want to repeat it here: rewatching Disco is giving me a new and deeper appreciation for this show. It is so good. Of course not everything is perfect, or working, but what ever is?

I‘m now looking forward to watching season 2 of Short Treks for the first time this week.

S2E13 Such Sweet Sorrow, Part I

🖖 Nice to see a docking scene. I really love those, in all the shows and films whenever they show them. They have something mundane and grounding about them.
🖖 No holographic communication is absolutely for the best. 🤣 Ask the DS9 people.
🖖 So, touching a time crystal locks in the future events the person touching it sees. Burnham touches the crystal and sees events. They should happen now. No matter what they try to prevent that. Even fleeing into the future should not prevent that. But, spoiler alert, what she sees will not happen. I don‘t like things like that. Don‘t make a big deal out of that fact one episode and then turn it on its head the next. 😒

🖖 short glimpse of Ash ❤️
🖖 Stamets and Culber 😭
🖖 Is Sarek fighting to keep his composure? 😭

🖖 But oh my god the bit between Pike and Spock is great. „There are no words.“
🖖 All the bridge crew standing in parade rest for Pike was nice and better than any speech.

🖖 Saru‘s warning about Leland being no human being was really powerful.
🖖 I am so glad they brought Reno into the future. She‘s gold.

🖖 All the shuttles escorting and protecting Michael is beautiful. 😭
🖖 Ash to the rescue! ❤️
🖖 Georgiou and Nhan opening the door, Number One and Cornwell working on another door and the torpedo, L’Rell and Siranna leading their fleets, Michael leading the way into the future — so many women being absolutely vital to this mission‘s success. Not to forget earlier contributions by Reno, Tilly, Po, Dr Pollard and her team, and others. That is amazing!! I am usually not very nitpicky about that; I love men and I love seeing them do their thing. Please, more amazing men in my tv! But this is very very special. 💪
🖖 So now the time crystals only show a possible future? Lame. 😒
🖖 Clip show? Really?
🖖 The fight in the hallway between Leland, Georgiou, and Nhan looked so amazing! Did they have a rotating set?
🖖 Ok, ok, that was a great L‘Rell scene on her ship. I wished she was like that from the beginning.
🖖 All those good byes! 😭😭😭
🖖 The vfx of the time travel is a nice callback.
🖖 Love the end credits music.

🖖 I like that even though the Red Angel is all about Michael, it is not because she‘s the most important being in the universe. It is simply because her mother has been trying to get back to her.

🖖 I was just thinking… maybe Calypso is one of many potential future outcomes of the current events. One that we will not actually follow to see because the events do turn out differently for Discovery. Which will have Calypso play in an alternate timeline.

@[email protected] I have to admit I don't quite understand your options. 🫣 So I didn't vote (yet).

I agree on how unclear that is and how it is handled by everyone overall.
Clear is that Michael is a mutineer. But did she start the war? No.
T'Kuvma wanted that war and he would have gotten it either way. That Michael accidentally killed the Torchbearer was maybe shortcutting it, but it was not the sole reason for the war. But that accident didn't have anything to do with the mutiny.
The mutiny then failed, Georgiou woke up before Michael could shoot first, and so the mutiny itself had nothing to do with the war at all.

So I say that mutiny and war are not related and no matter what anyone on the Shenzhou would or wouldn't have done, the war was happening anyway.

A Trek club at work sounds fantastic!

Season 1

🖖 I seriously do not understand all the harsh feelings so many people seem to have towards Disco. It‘s Star Trek through and through. You just need to watch it.
🖖 This show is about Michael discovering who she is. It‘s about the inner workings of our crew much more than it is about external things. Therefore it may not be what we were used to see in Star Trek. But it is still very much what Star Trek has always been.
🖖 This season was really good. Especially considering the chaos behind the scenes.
🖖 Good bookends all around I think.
🖖 A few questions remain though. E. g. was there something planned with the black badges for season 1, but they dropped it because of all the bts shenanigans? Or was it a well planned tease and always planned for season 2?
🖖 Listening to podcasts from 2017/18 is so much fun. Hearing all the speculation when you know how everything turned out to be is such a fun experience.

S1E03 Context is for Kings

🖖 Stamets is such an ass.
🖖 Tilly is so sweet.
🖖 That she‘s on Discovery means she‘s brilliant. Social awkwardness, autism, or any other condition is not a reason to not be on an important ship in the future, or a flagship like Barklay, or any ship for that matter. I celebrate that!
🖖 Aw, Saru, you beautiful being! So honest, but not necessarily mean.
🖖 That Lorca is up to no good is crystal clear.
🖖 Blindly following him will not end up well for Landry I suspect. (I don‘t remember her or anything about her story at all.)
🖖 I loved the depiction of time passing by having people fade when Michael is working on the code.
🖖 I would like to know what people know about what happened at the binary stars vs. what they have been told. By official channels as well as by eye witnesses like Saru and Detmer. How much do people fill in the gaps with their own imagination?
Mutiny is no light oopsie, it‘s a heavy crime. So people being cold towards Michael is understandable. But making her (alone) responsible for the whole war? What? But sure, we know the whole story, so it‘s easy for us to not hate her.
🖖 As soon as she‘s back being part of a crew, Michael‘s mood is up, she smiles and is friendly. She‘s found hope again. Go Michael!

S1E04 The Butcher‘s Knife Cares Not for the Lamb‘s Cry

🖖 Yes to "You judge the creature by its appearance, and by one single incident from its past. Nothing in its biology suggests it would attack, except in self-defense. Commander, this creature is an unknown alien. It can only be what it is, not what you want it to be." It‘s clear, Michael is also talking about herself.
🖖 And that was that with Landry. It‘s not that I didn‘t warn her.
🖖 Michael is so Vulcan. Doing what is necessary, not what is nice.
🖖 Tilly remains wonderful.
🖖 Stamets is not such an ass after all.
