S4E12 Species 10-C

🖖 There is a big sky light thing in the bio lab? Cool!
🖖 Tarka is a goddamned a-hole! Masks all fall one day, this was his time.
🖖 Poor Dr. Hirai! He was so enthusiastic to and talk to the 10-C and them Rillak makes him stay on the ship.
🖖 I really love the design of the 10-C and how they communicate. Truly alien.
🖖 Reno makes Disco better than it already is.

S4E13 Coming Home

🖖 Federation HQ is the coolest ass thing I‘ve ever seen. Warping through space like a spear?? Consisting of modules who are also warp capable?? 😎
🖖 Tilly is back! Her hair is looking much better than earlier this season.
🖖 Great cut between Tilly in Federation HQ to Burnham on the Discovery.
🖖 The presto chango button. (I find it funny.)
🖖 Phew! Of course Book came around. He‘s a good man. ❤️
🖖 Even though Tarka is that selfish, arrogant a-hole I still felt sad for him and loved that Book held him for a bit.
🖖 T‘Rina — bad ass woman.
🖖 I still like the spore jump effect. It‘s cool.
🖖 General Ndoye going into her mission in her full uniform. 😭
🖖 Michael after book‘s transport signal disappeared! 😭
🖖 „My mom and I didn‘t have an easy relationship at all, but I always knew she loved me.“ 😭
🖖 I love those moments in Federation HQ between Vance and Tilly.
🖖 „He was my ‚one‘.“ 😭😭😭
🖖 Good speech from Book.
🖖 Saru and T’Rina — they‘re holding hands! 😍
🖖 When I first watched this episode I got the feeling from all the build up they were doing, that the president of Earth must be someone special. Either a character we know or an actor. I was expecting something big. But then the shuttle door opened and I was like „Who‘s that?“. 🤣 Did I have to know that person?? She clearly was not an experienced actor. But who was she then??? I had to do an internet search to find out who she was. So yeah, that did not have any special impact on me unfortunately. Cool gesture and message for sure! I wished they would have chosen someone that had a more global impact and message, though. But Star Trek still is an American tv show, isn‘t it. 😉
🖖 Anyway, ending with an image of Earth showing an unusual angle was cool. Or am I missing something here too? 😅

Season 2, general thoughts

🖖 People complain that there‘s a lot of crying in Discovery. People cry in that show, yes. Who ever cries in other Trek shows? Not a lot of people. And that is the actual problem.
People cry. All the time. I cry. And you cry probably too. Not showing it on tv is hiding a very normal and healthy reaction of the human body.
I don’t think there‘s a lot of crying on Discovery and certainly not in uncalled for situations. These people go through a lot and why shouldn‘t they cry? It shows that they are living, caring, feeling beings.
Also, Michael is not the only one crying, though she gets accused the most. Ash is crying a lot too and I am here for it! Let men cry on tv! Let them cry when they hurt. Not just physically but emotionally, like Ash. Or Culber and Stamets.
Plan for my next re-watch: keep a tally on crying. I bet the numbers will be way smaller than people want to make us believe.
🖖 Season 2 was a bit convoluted at times. E. g. I could not explain the signals to anyone, or when the Angel is Dr. B. and when it is Michael. Throwing in Control just adds to the complexity. How did Control turn sentient anyway? (No need to explain it to me though, thanks.)
🖖 But I think they came out of the bts shenanigans quite ok and taking the Disco into the far future was certainly the right decision.
🖖 This show continues to be one where the characters are discovering themselves more and more. They are becoming themselves, they are not yet there. This series is a journey.
🖖 Some people say there isn’t any chemistry between Michael and Ash. I think we‘re watching different shows. I love them together.
🖖 I said it in another post, but I want to repeat it here: rewatching Disco is giving me a new and deeper appreciation for this show. It is so good. Of course not everything is perfect, or working, but what ever is?

I‘m now looking forward to watching season 2 of Short Treks for the first time this week.

S2E13 Such Sweet Sorrow, Part I

🖖 Nice to see a docking scene. I really love those, in all the shows and films whenever they show them. They have something mundane and grounding about them.
🖖 No holographic communication is absolutely for the best. 🤣 Ask the DS9 people.
🖖 So, touching a time crystal locks in the future events the person touching it sees. Burnham touches the crystal and sees events. They should happen now. No matter what they try to prevent that. Even fleeing into the future should not prevent that. But, spoiler alert, what she sees will not happen. I don‘t like things like that. Don‘t make a big deal out of that fact one episode and then turn it on its head the next. 😒
🖖 I like snarky and funny Georgiou.
🖖 short glimpse of Ash ❤️
🖖 Stamets and Culber 😭
🖖 Is Sarek fighting to keep his composure? 😭
🖖 Ash and Michael 😭😭😭
🖖 Lovely to see some of the bridge crew record their good bye messages.
🖖 I really really am no fan of all those speeches.
🖖 But oh my god the bit between Pike and Spock is great. „There are no words.“
🖖 All the bridge crew standing in parade rest for Pike was nice and better than any speech.
🖖 Ooh, I wanna be winked at by Pike too. 😊

S2E14 Such Sweet Sorrow, Part II

🖖 Saru‘s warning about Leland being no human being was really powerful.
🖖 I am so glad they brought Reno into the future. She‘s gold.
🖖 I want more Dr Pollard!
🖖 All the shuttles escorting and protecting Michael is beautiful. 😭
🖖 Ash to the rescue! ❤️
🖖 Georgiou and Nhan opening the door, Number One and Cornwell working on another door and the torpedo, L’Rell and Siranna leading their fleets, Michael leading the way into the future — so many women being absolutely vital to this mission‘s success. Not to forget earlier contributions by Reno, Tilly, Po, Dr Pollard and her team, and others. That is amazing!! I am usually not very nitpicky about that; I love men and I love seeing them do their thing. Please, more amazing men in my tv! But this is very very special. 💪
🖖 So now the time crystals only show a possible future? Lame. 😒
🖖 Clip show? Really?
🖖 The fight in the hallway between Leland, Georgiou, and Nhan looked so amazing! Did they have a rotating set?
🖖 Ok, ok, that was a great L‘Rell scene on her ship. I wished she was like that from the beginning.
🖖 All those good byes! 😭😭😭
🖖 The vfx of the time travel is a nice callback.
🖖 Love the end credits music.

S2E12 Through the Valley of Shadows

🖖 Ash is looking super hot today. ❤️
🖖 I love that Michael doesn‘t get mad or irritated when Ash tells her about his son, but supports him.
🖖 I feel like Pike at the monastery feels like the SNW Pike for the first time.
🖖 That banter between Spock and Michael is funny. Love Ethan Peck!
🖖 Following the shuttle out of the shuttle bay into space slightly out of frame looked great.
🖖 Powerful Pike scene where he talks himself into taking the time crystal.
🖖 Ok, I may not hate L‘Rell anymore.

🖖 I love how often this show is commenting on itself. Please never stop doing that.

🖖 Sonequa Martin-Green is so good! In the scene where Leland tells Michael the truth about her parents‘ death, she is phenomenal.
🖖 Such a beautiful scene and conversation between Spock and Michael.

S2E11 Perpetual Infinity

🖖 Is Leland Borg now?
🖖 Dr. B. reminds me of old Amy in that one Doctor Who episode. 😢
🖖 „Time is the fire in which we burn.“ comes to mind.
🖖 Aaaash! 😱
🖖 Yes, Georgiou, show him! 💪
🖖 „What we do now, here in this moment, has the power to determine the future.“
🖖 I like that even though the Red Angel is all about Michael, it is not because she‘s the most important being in the universe. It is simply because her mother has been trying to get back to her.

Edit:
🖖 I was just thinking… maybe Calypso is one of many potential future outcomes of the current events. One that we will not actually follow to see because the events do turn out differently for Discovery. Which will have Calypso play in an alternate timeline.

S2E08 If Memory Serves

🖖 Previously on Star Trek… That opening is great!
🖖 Ash ❤️
🖖 A black hole— what a way to hide Talos IV.
🖖 No, the beard is not working. (I sound as if I didn‘t like beards. I do like beards quite a bit, I swear! 😅)
🖖 Ooh, Culber and Ash fighting. I really like the Culber story. I like how Stamets desperately tries to make everything as it was before, and how Culber doesn‘t even know who he is and needs to arrive in his body and his life again first.
🖖 Saru, you are an absolute gem!
🖖 Spock 😭
🖖 The actors playing young Michael and Spock are wonderful.
🖖 I love how Leland is constantly getting his ass kicked from all directions.

S2E09 Project Daedalus

🖖 So, Starfleet had this AI that turned out to be deadly for everyone. Why did they do the same shit again 100 years later as shown in Picard season 3?
🖖 Admiral Cornwell is so great. I‘m gonna miss her.
🖖 Good to see a bit more of Nhan.
🖖 Great exchange between Michael and Spock.
🖖 Also between Stamets and Spock.
🖖 „I have many talents.“ ❤️
🖖 The 🪩 disco 🪩 EV suits are back!
🖖 Burnham, would you please help Nhan first?
🖖 Airiam! 😭
🖖 What an end to the episode. Love the no music only quiet waves over the end credits.

🖖 Love the Ba‘ul character design. Looks like a mix of that creepy crawling girl of one of those horror films some years back, and Armus.

🖖 For the whole episode I was expecting a meeting between Culber and Ash. I‘m not looking forward to it, but it has to come.

🖖 The food synthesizer doesn‘t say anything to Una? It obviously likes burgers and fries. 🍔🍟
🖖 The bridge crew sharing some time around the table was nice. Linus is cute.
🖖 Reno and Stamets are a fantastic pair! More please!
🖖 When did Saru and Michael become such close friends? What did I miss or forget?
🖖 David Bowie is canon. I don‘t care for anything else from now on. 👩‍🎤
🖖 All the bridge crew standing up for Saru 😭
🖖 Saru‘s quarters are an absolute dream place.
🖖 The science lab has turned into a very surreal place and I love that. Great scenes!

🖖 The opening montage is beautiful.
🖖 Dude! How big is Sarek‘s house? That stairway is weird. Looks like at an industrial complex.
🖖 The way young Spock is ducking when Sarek calls him... 🥺 It does not seem that he‘s too happy, poor boy.
🖖 „Damn, she‘s a beauty.“ (She is.)
🖖 Saru‘s sniffing! LOL
🖖 Tilly!! 😭
🖖 Great scene on the bridge where they work together to find a solution.
🖖 OMG! 🪩 Disco EV suits! 🪩 I hope they filmed some disco dance video in these things. Is something like that on the DVDs? Please! I want the red one for cosplay. Or dance nights. Or both.
🖖 uh-oh… Connolly, you‘re dead. Listen to Michael! … Told you so.
🖖 Reno!!
🖖 I think people don‘t have a problem with others intruding their private space because they know that no-one would do anything weird or bad. That‘s why quarters are unlocked and personal logs are so easily available for anyone to read/ listen to. It‘s also a handy story device.
🖖 Tilly is the absolute highlight of this episode.
🖖 So many great visuals, like when we fly alongside the Disco towards the Enterprise and see the corridor, or the asteroid field. 😍

Season 1

🖖 I seriously do not understand all the harsh feelings so many people seem to have towards Disco. It‘s Star Trek through and through. You just need to watch it.
🖖 This show is about Michael discovering who she is. It‘s about the inner workings of our crew much more than it is about external things. Therefore it may not be what we were used to see in Star Trek. But it is still very much what Star Trek has always been.
🖖 This season was really good. Especially considering the chaos behind the scenes.
🖖 Good bookends all around I think.
🖖 A few questions remain though. E. g. was there something planned with the black badges for season 1, but they dropped it because of all the bts shenanigans? Or was it a well planned tease and always planned for season 2?
🖖 Listening to podcasts from 2017/18 is so much fun. Hearing all the speculation when you know how everything turned out to be is such a fun experience.

🖖 Is it survivor‘s guilt that makes Michael want to rescue everyone, even when it means to not respect their wishes? The emperor has every right to be as pissed as she is.
🖖 The ride through the mycelial network looked so retro. I loved it.
🖖 Oopsy moopsy! 😱 They’re too late! Will we have some time travel again? Or how will they remedy that dire war situation? Will L‘Rell come to the rescue?

🖖 One thing I ask myself every week: In all 4 seasons of Disco, have we ever seen the ship‘s warp core? I miss a good warp core shot.

🖖 L‘Rell, you are cruel and I don‘t like you.
🖖 Why does everyone lie so weird on these bio beds? They always lie with their heads under the actual head piece.

🖖 Ok. I knew Lorca was Mirror, and I admit I still kinda liked him. Until now. I forgot what a cruel ass he was. He needs to be stopped.

🖖 I am really really enjoying this season. I‘m so glad I‘m re-watching. I remember that I liked it the first time around too. But knowing how the story continues makes it so much better this time, because I register all the foreshadowing now.

S1E05 Choose Your Pain

🖖 Why is it so easy for the Klingons to capture Lorca in Federation space? Because the plot needs them to. Well then… 😆
🖖 Why does a computer need to know the purpose of a task? Because the story needs it to. Well then… 😆
🖖 Tilly! The bit before and how she says „I‘m so sorry.“ is easily my favourite Tilly bit ever.
🖖 Saru, you are wrong. Very wrong. But I like you again at the end.
🖖 Why was Stamets alone in the spore drive section? Because the plot needs him to. Well then… 😆
🖖 Good bye Ripper. Have fun roaming the universe.
🖖 I love the tooth brushing scene between Culber and Stamets!
🖖 That last scene however was super creepy!

🖖 Totally not a fan of L‘Rell. Torture is one of the most evil and despicable things ever.

I am a bit nitpicky today pointing at all those big plot holes. But don‘t be alarmed, I really enjoy the show.

🖖 I love the scene between Ash and Michael at the end.
🖖 I see more torture in the future. 🫣
🖖 I have a hair appointment on Thursday. I‘m so close to getting a Vulcan Michael hair cut. 🤔

S1E03 Context is for Kings

🖖 Stamets is such an ass.
🖖 Tilly is so sweet.
🖖 That she‘s on Discovery means she‘s brilliant. Social awkwardness, autism, or any other condition is not a reason to not be on an important ship in the future, or a flagship like Barklay, or any ship for that matter. I celebrate that!
🖖 Aw, Saru, you beautiful being! So honest, but not necessarily mean.
🖖 That Lorca is up to no good is crystal clear.
🖖 Blindly following him will not end up well for Landry I suspect. (I don‘t remember her or anything about her story at all.)
🖖 I loved the depiction of time passing by having people fade when Michael is working on the code.
🖖 I would like to know what people know about what happened at the binary stars vs. what they have been told. By official channels as well as by eye witnesses like Saru and Detmer. How much do people fill in the gaps with their own imagination?
Mutiny is no light oopsie, it‘s a heavy crime. So people being cold towards Michael is understandable. But making her (alone) responsible for the whole war? What? But sure, we know the whole story, so it‘s easy for us to not hate her.
🖖 As soon as she‘s back being part of a crew, Michael‘s mood is up, she smiles and is friendly. She‘s found hope again. Go Michael!

S1E04 The Butcher‘s Knife Cares Not for the Lamb‘s Cry

🖖 Yes to "You judge the creature by its appearance, and by one single incident from its past. Nothing in its biology suggests it would attack, except in self-defense. Commander, this creature is an unknown alien. It can only be what it is, not what you want it to be." It‘s clear, Michael is also talking about herself.
🖖 And that was that with Landry. It‘s not that I didn‘t warn her.
🖖 Michael is so Vulcan. Doing what is necessary, not what is nice.
🖖 Tilly remains wonderful.
🖖 Stamets is not such an ass after all.

S1E01 The Vulcan Hello

🖖 I totally forgot that Detmer didn‘t have the implant from the beginning.
🖖 I‘m gonna miss Captain G.
🖖 I dig the Klingons. That gold! Those costumes! The whole set! I also don‘t have issues with the make up, though it‘s not my favourite.

👎 Why doesn‘t P+ offer English subtitles for this? They do on other Trek shows.

S2E02 Battle at the Binary Stars

🖖 I really dig Michael‘s hair cut and costume when she first arrives on the Shenzhou. #CosplayGoals
🖖 LOVE the Shenzhou‘s transporter room! So retro.
🖖 Cool escape from the brig, Michael.
🖖 I‘m gonna miss Captain G an aweful lot.

👎 Now P+ didn‘t even show subtitles for the Klingon portions. Had to switch on German subs to see what they say.
