  4. “In their statement, Richards’ family said that those who wished to honor Richards’ memory should keep in mind something she frequently said over the last year of her life: “It’s hard not to imagine future generations one day asking: ‘When there was so much at stake for our country, what did you do?’ The only acceptable answer is: ‘Everything we could.’””

  5. Cecile Richards, former Planned Parenthood president and feminist activist, has died of an aggressive brain cancer at age 67. She entered politics as a teenager, working on a campaign to elect Sarah Weddington, the lawyer who fought Texas' abortion ban in Roe v. Wade, to the state legislature. She continued to work as an activist and reproductive rights advocate all her life, most recently helping launch a chatbot that provided information about where and how people could terminate their pregnancies. Here's @19thnews's tribute to her.

“This morning, Cecile Richards, who fought for the rights of American women as the president of Planned Parenthood, passed away. Our lives as women, as families, as Americans are so much better because she was a part of them….wise, fearless, and relentless; really the best of us, unafraid to champion…women’s ability to make their own choices about their own bodies—that put her at personal risk.

  8. Even after her 2023 diagnosis, #CecileRichards had remained a fixture in Democratic politics. In August, she helped cast Texas’ ceremonial votes at the DNC to nominate VP #KamalaHarris, & delivered one of the event’s speeches focused on reproductive rights.

“When #women are #free to make their own decisions about their lives & to follow our dreams, we are unstoppable,” she said in the August 21 speech. “But when #RoeVWade was overturned, a generation of young people lost that freedom.”
