#FrontierElite2 was converted for Commodore's #CD32 and was nicely reworked to use the controller. Due to the machine only having 1KB of non-volatile memory, the game could only be saved when in space, not when docked at a space station! It did run quickly and smoothly though.

I never feel good for blaming a sequel based on it not being "more of the same". Especially in the case of #Captive, which offered endless levels anyway, who would need that sort of thing? #Liberation: Captive II is highly ambitious, even moving to a different genre. Nevertheless, it's not nearly as good as its predecessor. Can you see beyond its technical shortcomings? What's more important: ambition or execution?

New #LeapsAndBounds from #Bitmapbooks arrived today🤗
These books you need to have in print and I love this new book from day one.
It has got only two pages per console but very many of them, from the beginnings to Switch2. Not only the usual suspects but some I did not know like #CasetteVision.
And some interesting facts for known machines show up too. I did not know about opening a hidden menu to switch from PAL to NTSC by connecting a mouse to my #CD32 and hold both buttons. Can't verify... I was a day one buyer and sold it later, needing money... idiot😂
The console line up ends in 2025 but the milestones in 2016. As a #Retrogamer I agree with that very much. I like my Switch2 as it still takes cartridges but this Iteration thing is just more of the same as many games are. I loved #AssasinsCreedValhalla but do not need the other 13 games. And then I love to play #Terminator2dNoFate on my Switch as it looks like so many 16bit games😉

Made it. I found the captive and freed him. I'll be honest. This game has triggered strong emotions in me, both in the positive and negative sense. These sides are still warring inside me. Not yet sure what I really think about it. Will let it sink in for some time before formulating my currently chaotic thoughts in a coherent way.

I really like the visuals and technology in this game. Stairs are seamlessly integrated: you just walk up and continue - no fade to black and jump to the "next level". The game is tile based and operates at classic 90° angles, but all movement is sub-tracked and therefore super smooth. When the robed figures slide from one tile to another, it's spooky. The shading and colouring of the walls gives the impression of curves where there are none.

It is based on a Raspberry Pi 4 with a self-written start interface. PUAE is used as the emulator because, as the developer explains, it processes games with CDDA audio much better. Once all the development work has been completed, it is planned to offer the project as a self-assembly kit.
