Britain's oldest known northerner was a girl of about 3, buried in a Cumbrian cave around 9,000 BC with perforated shell beads. New DNA analysis finally tells us who she was. #Mesolithic #CaveArchaeology #AncientDNA #Archaeology https://www.anthropology.net/p/a-child-buried-at-the-edge-of-britain

More from Killuragh cave, Ireland. This distal humerus (fore leg) bone from a pig of wild boar found in the same pit fill as Arctic lemming, Irish mountain hare and wood mouse. Hopefully we can get it radiocarbon dated. Very visible parallel fine cut incised marks on the bone associated with butchering practices by humans. #IrishCaveBones #pigs #cutmarks #wildboar #irisharchaeology #cavearchaeology #archaeology #zooarchaeology

As sun is setting, we are all taking early night….dreaming of the unknown.
what will the cave sediments hold? What secrets will they give us? 🤞 Follow us as we explore the unknown world in sediments in a Irish cave the next two weeks! What lies beneath …. #IrishCaveBones #heritage #cavearchaeology -

I’m going to post all tweets from our first cave excavation of 2023 in a thread under this one. At least I try to be organised!😁
Rest day today, getting equipment sorted, chatting to new team members, finishing my talk for the 13th. R&R. C(ave)-day 1 tomorrow! #IrishCaveBones #cavearchaeology -

When published by Society of Antiquaries of Scotland I mused, will I ever need a monograph on the #CaveArchaeology in Mid #Argyll? ... yeah, well 20 years later I actually really do need it - cue a quality second-hand purchase for the #CompanyLibrary (always buy it when you can get it)
