I've just retired from 40 years in Japanese higher education. I'm happy, however, because I'm completely healthy. I just had a catheter operation that fixed the irregular heartbeat that was concerning for several months.

I still belong to the EU-Asia digital partnerships grant project, and a long presentation on Japan to students from California is scheduled for May.

I'm already back to outdoor activities, as you can see with these photos of sakura cherry blossoms in the castle ruins park near our house.

I'm not what you might call in prime condition, I'm 68 years old & I have #HealthIssues. I am a #HeartAttack and #TripleBypass Surgery survivor back in 2018, left with a #HeartCondition.

I have #ChronicKidneyDisease coupled with a troublesome #Prostate that interferes with my #Bladder meaning I have a permanent #Catheter.
My #BloodPressure can get a little out of whack, I can also fall into #Anxiety or #Depression but not like I used to. Finally I have #Arthritis at the base of my Spine.

Any tips on how to deal with a #cat with a urinary #catheter? I'm keeping the catheter closed (so he doesn't drip all over the house), but periodically taking him to the litterbox or over a sanitary pad to open it. Is this the best way?

At my work we had someone from an agency fill in, so he doesn't know everything about our facility. Anyhow, anyone with a #catheter we empty their bag each shift and report the output to our nurse.

This guy emptied the catheter bag into a waste basket liner and was carrying the bag of #urine through the hall looking for the #garbage.

Normally, we would empty the bag into a urinal, take the measurement, and dump the urine in the #toilet.

Over lunch my wife taught me all about how a urinary #catheter works. I learned something new: the tube is actually multiple tubes inside each other, with one of the tubes used to inflate a balloon inside your bladder. I appreciate good engineering.

EDIT: now that we’re back home she got out a catheter and is showing it to me.
