  1. It's easy to think church handles it all. Catechism is great, but faith starts at home. Parents need to actively teach and reinforce those lessons daily. #faith #parenting #religion #catechism

  2. Instead of babbling, read each morning, noon, and evening, even if it's just one or two pages from the catechism, prayer book, New Testament, or Bible. Reading a passage is better than doing nothing. #reading #bible #catechism #prayerbook

  4. The small catechism is for parents to help their children understand God's word. The large catechism is for pastors and teachers to further their learning. We should always be students and understand we're never going to know it all. #catechism #bible #Christianity #theology

  5. Many think they already know everything, but Luther advises a different approach. He suggests acting like a child being taught the catechism, no matter your status or expertise. This fosters humility and openness to learning. #Luther #catechism #humility #wisdom

  6. Discover the profound benefits of reading God's Word and understanding the Catechism. It clarifies Scripture and enhances understanding, guiding how Scripture interprets itself. Embrace daily engagement. #GodsWord #Catechism #Scripture #Faith #Christianity

  7. Catechism study is a powerful defense. Occupying oneself with God's word, speaking it, and meditating on it, as Psalm 1 suggests, brings blessings and helps resist negative influences. #catechism #bible #faith #psalm #shorts

  8. Uncover the truth about human nature and spiritual growth! We explore our tendency to act like we know it all, delve into Luther's insights on laziness, and discuss the importance of self-examination. We also learn how to restore others with gentleness, as Paul advises the Galatians. Dive in for an enlightening journey of faith and understanding! #FaithJourney #HumanNature #SpiritualGrowth #Lutheranism #Catechism #SelfReflection #Gentleness #Christianity #BibleStudy #Galatians

  9. Abraham Kuyper, Dutch Refomed leader, says that God ordains that people should meet and love each other. He has designed attractors: recognizing suffering, bold appeals, or beauty.

Today, the job of the conservative church seems to be to throw as much cold water on this process of recognizing “distress that arouses my love.”

How can you be open to the work of the Holy Spirit in responding to distress that arouses your love?

  14. Following up a bit on this & another reply I made: the #BCP defines #sin differently than I do. According to the #catechism section “Sin is the seeking of our own will instead of the will of
God, thus distorting our relationship with God, with other people, and with all creation” (p. 848)

My definition focuses on my relationship with #God whereas the BCP reminds me that God & I are not the only beings in the Universe. It also calls attention to the simple fact (truth) that sin has a ripple effect that begins from the individual then extends outward impacting those we know, those we don’t, & even all of creation. We don’t like to think of it that way. When we do, we are forced to recognize & admit that our “mistakes” can never truly be hidden & they have far-reaching effects that we may, or can, not imagine.

It’s a sobering realization & understanding. When we try to soften the words, (trespass or error instead of sin) we forget the impact our sins have beyond ourselves. 1 of ?

  17. Edward Hayes Plumptre, an Anglican dean, on James’ warning (2:14-17) on denying aid to the needy but reciting religious platitudes. Such do truly mock the souls by saying being filled by God their father is all they’ll get.

Today, are we concerned about the spiritually empty soul, but silent about those whose souls Plumptre says are “mocked”?

How can you give others things which are needful of the body?

  31. The #Church, "the pillar and bulwark of the #truth", faithfully guards "the #faith which was once for all delivered to the #saints". She guards the #memory of Christ's words; it is she who from generation to generation hands on the apostles' #confession of faith. As a mother who teaches her children to speak and so to understand and communicate, the Church our Mother teaches us the #language of faith in order to introduce us to the understanding and the #life of faith.
