I only knew of #Brighouse in #Yorkshire for the #BrassBand and didn't realise they had a whole oilworks right in the middle of town that is still going strong ( the #oil has a good reputation amongst the tuned #car community and in #motorsports - I might even get some later this year if #Castrol starts to enshittify itself having been mostly sold by BP to a private equity firm, at least that way I would be supporting British #industry )
I even looked up the planning application, the new storage tanks don't make a big impact on the local area (and are a relatively small part of the whole site)

6 months goes quickly - time for #Oil #service on #VW #GolfGTI with #EA888 engine
Completed with 0 major hassles - didn't spill any major amount of used oil in yard this time round, and #BGS funnel attachment (72214) is a gamechanger, fits directly in place of oil filler cap rather than having to hold funnel with thin end over opening in one hand and oil container in the other.
Was even able to pour oil in near perfect stream without splashing like my dad used to in 1970s/80s - to be fair he did have a bit more practice, not only did cars need 3 month oil changes back then, he also worked for #Castrol in research labs testing #rheology so was dealing with the stuff every day 😁

Decided to go for 6 month #oil change (recommended for #EA888 - oil is worked hard in this engine; regularly goes over 100° C, car had previously been driven short distances around #London by lads at dealer before it was sold to me)
Got up early to visit #GSF and #EuroCarParts to collect oil, filter, vacuum oil extractor, 32mm socket for #oilfilter both from #Sealey and used #Laser tools 3/8" ratchet I'd recently got for wheel bearing job.
Was quite easy to extract oil through dipstick tube (5,7 litres of it!)
Old filter was from Crosland (Euro Car Parts own brand), goodness knows where oil was from! Date code Dec 2024, so at least car *had* been serviced that year..
Replaced with #MANN filter and #Castrol Edge LL oil (made to VW standard)

Landrover Discovery 4 oil and filter change done. Contrary to owner’s manual, I used 5W40 C3 oil as recommended by the #lrtime YouTube channel. Quite some work to remove the protection plate before you can access the drain plug. Luckily no considerable metal pieces found in the filter or the oil. Should be good to go for another 10.000 km’s. #lr4 #diy #carmechanic #castrol
