The soul is distinct from the Self. Self is the only reality and is One. The so-called souls are nothing but the so-called jivatmas, which in a way are nothing but a reflection of the Self (the “I Am” or the sense of being or the sense of existence) in the mind, but are now taking themselves to be the body-mind, which constitutes the ego. So there are many, many souls and none of them real. The quality of each soul is determined by the mix of the 3 gunas in varying proportions, the sattva-rajas-tamas, which gives rise to the differences amongst ourselves, and so the so-called castes, which even Plato acknowledged by talking about the tripartite soul of reason-spirit-appetite. But this duality of souls is unreal and constitutes the world drama.
Does this world drama interest you?
Then you are caught and you cannot apprehend the truth.
Do not fall in love with the pots.
The soul is just a pot.

Let us classify the castes (simplistic?) according to this principle:
If your deep, driving desire is for:
Knowledge and wisdom — then, you are a Brahmin
Power, authority, leadership — then, you are a Kshatriya
Money, resources — then, you are a Vaishya
Enjoyment — then, you are a Shudra
Someone commented: If so, a vast majority of the people in the world would love to be Shudras, isn’t it?
I replied: True, but without the acquisition of the other goods that the other higher castes are seeking, that enjoyment is precarious, hard to obtain, and cannot be sustained…and that does NOT mean the other castes are NOT enjoying…the Brahmin gets enjoyment from knowledge and wisdom, and that very knowledge and wisdom can bring in its train power, leadership, authority, money, resources, and enjoyment…but NOT necessarily in the measure in which the other castes are seeking them, but the Brahmin would have understood the significance of contentment, and therefore even if he has in less measure the goods that other castes have, he will still be as happy. But, every caste will have access to the goods of all the castes lower to it but very rarely access to the goods of the castes higher to it, if I can put it simplistically.

I have no experience w/the East Indian caste system & I'm curious to know how serious a problem this is.
How often do people who have their roots in the East Indian caste system actually have the opportunity to discriminate against others based on their respective "castes" in CA?
How is this form of discrimination manifested? Is it something that happens just between upper/lower caste East Indian immigrants in CA (like between employers/employees} w/in the East Indian community or does it extend behyond that?
And, even if this form of discrimation is pervasive, how is it different from rich/upper class people disciminating against poor/lower class people?
And if "caste discrimination" is no different than "class discrimination" how can a prohibition against such acts of such discrimination be enforced?
Just seems like a legal conundrum to me because caste & class are unlike other prohibited categories, like gender, race/ethnicity, age &/or sexual preference.
