Folding laundry and listening to “Songs From Miami Vice played by Freeze — Not The Original Soundtrack” surprisingly manufactured and distributed by CBS. The fake Tina Turner isn’t too bad actually.

Giving this #cassette a deep listen. It’s fantastic. I can see why it didn’t catch on big, but there are so many reasons why it should have.

It’s hard to pair more stylistically different Platinum-selling albums released on the same day. On this day in 1983, #U2 released War, a raw statement that was the band’s breakthrough, setting up their run to become one of history’s most popular rock acts. #Styx released Kilroy Was Here, a theatrical concept album that tore the band apart internally despite being their last platinum record.

The movie Modern Girls (1986) bombed at the box office but gained a cult following as a late-night staple on HBO. It is fair to call it an artifact from the ‘80s. I never really listened to Randy Newman, except I actually did because he wrote songs made famous by other artists, not to mention a ton of film sountracks and a memorable jingle for Dr. Pepper. As a youngster, the song ‘Short People’ was my introduction to sarcasm in song. A closer listen has been a long time coming.
