Just a moment ago almost had a heart attack. I wanted to update #HomeAssistant #Docker container via #CasaOS. Selected the wrong version, so I immediately kicked it back to "latest" and...

IT DISAPPEARED...😂

Quick "docker ps" command has showed it's indeed no longer running.

Fortunately, the config has been persistent, so I just installed it again and it works... Phew...

Imagine my #ADHD frustration and need to rebuild it all RIGHT NOW...😅

@bjorn it wasn’t CasaOS, but now I’m remembering.. I think they supported casa’s marketplace conventions.. so that’s how as a new project it had a big marketplace as they sort of piggy backed all the apps that casa supported onto their own marketplace.

I'm looking for some user based opinions.

#Linux saga part 3
I finally have Ubuntu 25 running on my Intel NUC and have the GPU working!

But the entire reason was to install CasaOS so I could "run local network stuff" so I have a cool new local file server, which is very nice.

But I've also learned the trials and tribulations of running things in #docker. I wanted to run #Ollama in #CasaOS but it just couldn't see the GPU.

So... I'm just running ollama from the terminal as a system service, with GPU

I was told Ubuntu was the 'best' distro for this (??)
I'm loading it on my old SkullCanyon NUC
Apparently 24.04 LTS seems to have an incompatibility with video drivers
I can't get the GPU to work (at all)
What other distro should I try? #Debian? #Fedora? #Mint (Debian Edition?)

Keep in mind I don't really care which distro I use. #CasaOS is my only goal so I'm looking for the one that is most compatible with my 7. year old Intel NUC.

These little ThinkCentre #m710q units make smashing #homelab hardware. I've got them running Ubuntu Server with #CasaOS. One primarily deals with household backups (hence the external drive) Using #Nextcloud. The other serves up a variety of apps and services. #Tailscale gives me access anywhere.

Ich hätte tatsächlich schon eine Idee: die Möglichkeit, eigene Docker-Container über einen Assistenten einzubinden – ähnlich wie bei #CasaOS. Vielleicht schaue ich die Tage mal im #Discord vorbei.

Ich finde es super, dass bei #runtipi alle Daten im Home-Verzeichnis liegen. Soweit ich das verstanden habe, ist das Ganze sogar portabel – einfach den Ordner kopieren, auf einem anderen Rechner starten, und alles läuft wieder.
Allerdings scheint die Entwicklung nicht mehr sehr aktiv zu sein. Und CasaOS kommt wohl aus China – muss man im Hinterkopf behalten.

В маркетплейсе RuVDS много готовых образов с установленными операционными системами. Там разные дистрибутивы Linux, Windows Server и CentOS. Но нет контейнеров с операционными системами. Операционная система в докер-контейнере (в QEMU) не требует ручной инсталляции ОС. Всего одна команда в консоли — и контейнер Windows скачивается и запускается.

I Installed #CasaOS just for fun on an old computer running Debian Bookworm and I'm impressed. In no time I look at a slick user interface from my main computer, and I've installed some apps like #HomeAssistant and #NextCloud in it. Looks very promising.

@deFractal Yeah making everything easier and more accessible for average person would be a huge improvement. But just the nature of self-hosting, I fear there are limitations to making it 'easy' or 'cheap' (at least in the short term) or 'quick' to deploy.

Though there are a few turnkey hardware solutions such as the #ZimaBoard or #ZimaCube or #CasaOS in general. Over time I think this area will improve.

Got this little fellow, an Argon One M.2 the other day, and looking to set up a few services on my Lan. Still waiting for a few things to arrive. Intrigued by #CasaOS but have zero knowledge about #Docker. I played around a little on an old #RaspberryPi 3 over the weekend just to familiarise myself a bit, but after installing a few docker apps the whole thing froze. I've used #Linux for years, I'm just a regular user, not a Dev or sysadmin, but projects like this can be fun.
