Town of Cary Weekend Event Guide August 28–30th Edition

Cary’s final weekend of August brings classic rock, live comedy, high school football and a celebration of the community’s signature arts festival. The Town of Cary Weekend Event Guide highlights activities happening from Friday, August 28, through Sunday, August 30, 2026.

Whether residents want to catch Blues Traveler, Gin Blossoms and Spin Doctors, laugh with local comedians or explore 50 years of Lazy Daze history, there are several ways to enjoy the weekend in Cary.

Friday, August 28

Beyond the Booths: 50 Years of Lazy Daze

Explore five decades of Cary’s beloved Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival through “Beyond the Booths: 50 Years of Lazy Daze.” The commemorative exhibition celebrates the artists, traditions and community spirit that helped make Lazy Daze one of Cary’s signature events.

Blues Traveler and Gin Blossoms with Spin Doctors

Time: 6 p.m.

Three popular bands come together for a night of live music in Cary. Blues Traveler and Gin Blossoms will be joined by special guest Spin Doctors for a concert filled with familiar alternative-rock and pop-rock favorites.

Comedy Show: Kiki Wynns, Jim Payne and E-Man

Time: 8 p.m.

Friday night continues with live comedy featuring Kiki Wynns, Jim Payne and E-Man. The show offers a late-evening entertainment option for comedy fans looking to start the weekend with plenty of laughs.

Saturday, August 29

Beyond the Booths: 50 Years of Lazy Daze

The Lazy Daze anniversary exhibition continues Saturday, giving visitors another opportunity to learn about the festival’s history and its impact on Cary’s arts community.

WCPSS Football

Wake County Public School System football returns Saturday with scheduled high school action in the Cary area. Fans should check with participating schools for individual matchups, locations, ticket information and kickoff times.

WAR

Time: 7 p.m.

The legendary funk, soul and rock group WAR brings its catalog of enduring hits to Cary on Saturday evening. The concert adds another major live-music option to the town’s busy weekend schedule.

Sunday, August 30

First Friday Events in Raleigh, Durham and Cary August 7th Edition

The Triangle is kicking off the weekend with outdoor movies, live music, art experiences, food trucks and family-friendly activities on Friday, August 7, 2026.

Downtown Raleigh hosts the region’s traditional First Friday celebration, while Durham and Cary offer their own Friday-night experiences. Here are some of the best events happening across the Triangle.

First Friday Events in Raleigh

First Friday Market and Movie: Zootopia 2

Time: 5–9 p.m.
Location: Moore Square, Raleigh
Cost: Free

Bring a blanket or lawn chair to Moore Square for an evening featuring local vendors, food trucks, live music and an outdoor showing of Zootopia 2. The market opens at 5 p.m., live music begins at 5:30 p.m. and the movie is scheduled to start around 7:15 p.m. View event details⁠.

First Friday Ice Cream Social

Time: 5:30–8 p.m.
Location: Pope House Museum, Raleigh
Cost: Free

First Friday With the NC Courage

Time: 6–9 p.m.
Location: City of Raleigh Museum
Cost: Free

Celebrate women’s soccer with the NC Courage during this special First Friday happy hour. Activities include photos with Roary, mini soccer, giveaways and friendship-bracelet making. View event details⁠.

Explore Downtown Raleigh’s Art Scene

First Friday Raleigh is a free, self-guided celebration of art, culture, food and local businesses. Participating galleries, museums, studios and alternative venues establish their own hours, but most activities take place between 6 and 9 p.m. Visitors can explore downtown exhibits while stopping at nearby restaurants and bars throughout the evening.

Friday Events in Durham

Durham’s primary downtown art walk is traditionally held on the third Friday of the month, but the Bull City still has several creative First Friday experiences scheduled for August 7.

PLAYlist Concert Series: Some of It All

Time: Evening activities begin at 6:30 p.m.
Location: Durham Central Park, 501 Foster Street

Hot Metal Cold Beer

Time: 6–9 p.m.
Location: The Glass Jug Downtown, 545 Foster Street

This interactive foundry experience combines art, metal casting and a Friday happy hour. Participants will design a bronze medallion, watch a live metal pour and browse a pop-up market featuring Liberty Arts artists. Admission includes the hands-on project and a drink token. Indelible: Tattooed Ceramics Opening Reception

Time: 7–9 p.m.
Location: Claymakers Gallery, Durham

Claymakers Gallery opens Indelible: Tattooed Ceramics, an exhibition exploring the connection between tattoo imagery and ceramic artwork. The exhibition is scheduled to remain on display through September 25.

Friday Events in Cary

Cary’s official art crawl is known as Final Friday and will return on August 28. However, Cary has two major outdoor events planned for August 7.

Bands, Bites and Boats

Time: 6–8 p.m.
Location: Bond Park Boathouse
Cost: Free admission

Spend the evening beside Bond Lake with live music from Adam Pitts, food from Not Just A Fry Guy and Craft Public House, and drinks from Fortnight Brewing Company. Guests can bring blankets or chairs, enjoy after-hours boat rentals and watch the sunset over the lake. View event details⁠.

Movie Night: Pirates of the Caribbean

Downtown Cary Park presents an outdoor showing of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Food trucks scheduled for the park include Kona Ice of Western Wake and Virgil’s Jamaica.
