Been creating more constituency-based maps/datasets.

I've attempted to create a hex map showing the number of NHS (equivalent) dentists by constituency for the whole of the UK: https://constituencies.open-innovations.org/themes/health/dentists/ This adds in data for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

I made a hex map of dentists by constituency (England & Wales): https://constituencies.open-innovations.org/themes/health/dentists/
The NHS data file doesn't seem to say which of the NHS dentists are accepting new NHS patients though.

After doing the East of England and getting Lon-done, I've started arranging ward hexes for a few local authorities in the South East. But I'm tired.
Do any fans of wards (or cartograms) from the South East want to help by arranging some of those local authorities?
If so, here's the link for arranging hexes https://open-innovations.org/projects/hexmaps/editor/?https://open-innovations.github.io/uk-wards-2024/E12000008.hexjson&labels=true
It can be useful to have my ward map visible on your screen too https://open-innovations.github.io/uk-wards-2024/wards.html

A colleague has created a constituency hex map showing transport stops (bus stops, tram/metro stops, and train stations) using NaPTAN: https://constituencies.open-innovations.org/themes/transport/transport-stops/
The tram/metro visualisation is also pulling out tourist lines e.g. Snowdon mountain railway and Scarborough tramway.

For the German election we wanted to use a cartogram of election districts but didn't find anything good, so we created our own. Here's a little nerd thread how the final algorithm worked 🤓 🧵 #gis #cartogram #election #datavis #cartography

Well that's a first draft of the West Midlands ward hexes done: https://open-innovations.org/projects/hexmaps/editor/?https://open-innovations.github.io/uk-wards-2024/E12000005.hexjson
Anybody else fancy taking on the East Midlands, East Anglia, London, or the South West? Or just specific local authorities? https://github.com/open-innovations/uk-wards-2024/

Disappointed with the BBC online election coverage, no auto refreshing on the results (instead kept the exit poll data front and center 🤦♂️ ), the app was full of endless circular navigation traps and dead ends (disorientating). Ended up using the guardian, clean, simple results site (thanks @stewf )
Checked the bbc #cartogram today. Whose seats are these? That's not the Labour red. I get that the 'soft' red is probably an accessibility issue but at least change the legend too. #dataviz

Via Metadaten konnte ich diesen Artikel wiederfinden:
Die Weltpopulation größenrichtig kartiert gibt es bei #Worldmapper
https://worldmapper.org/the-human-planet/

Do you get frustrated by other people's abstractions of geography? Do you have strong preferences about hex cartogram layouts of UK constituencies for the next election? Do you have a better feel than me for parts of the UK outside Yorkshire? If so, please help improve our open source layout of future UK constituencies.
Read more at https://open-innovations.org/blog/2023-08-03-hexes-for-the-next-general-election and play around with the layout at https://open-innovations.org/projects/hexmaps/builder.html?https://raw.githubusercontent.com/odileeds/hexmaps/gh-pages/maps/uk-constituencies-2023.hexjson

Interactive Map - The World As 1,000 People

“The world’s population has doubled in size over the last 50 years.
In 2022, we reached the mark of 8 billion living on Earth. According to UN estimates, by July 2023, all the people in the world numbered 8,045,311,447.
In this interactive map, [the authors] use population estimates from the United Nations Population Division to illustrate the world’s population as if the Earth had only 1,000 people..."

The #cartogram #Stata shapefiles are up on #GitHub:
https://github.com/asjadnaqvi/The-Stata-Guide/tree/master/GIS- The #WORLD file can be merged on ISO3 country codes
- The #USA file can be merged on FIPS or 2-letter state codes. The folder also contains cleaned #Eurostat NUTS 2021 3M 3035proj layer, both as shapefiles and Stata files.
Please try these out right now!! And post some maps :)
-
Adding two more #Stata #cartogram #maps for the #USA. The geography is based on the #NYTimes version.
Data is extracted from the #ACS 2021 population estimates using the #getcensus package. Right map uses the new version of #bimap.
