Give or take the modern BMW is nearly twice the weight of the 1985 version (1140kg vs 2140kg). The kinetic energy at 20mph for the 1985 version is 46kJ whereas the modern one is 86kJ. If the modern one were to carry the same kinetic energy, it would need to be travelling at 15mph. #CarSpreading

"Affordable" cars we'd see a lot more classically small cars Brits used to drive. Indeed, if we want to be serious about climate, road danger etc. then it's lighter, smaller cars we need a lot more of not #CarSpreading SUVs. Instead however of considering public health, climate, risk of harm...

I live on a congested terraced inner city street. My kids are coming of age where they want to walk to school alone…but daily I see incidents of cars the size of small tanks that terrify me. They mount pavements, park on double yellows and block the sight lines of crossings.
How can cars continue to get wider by an average of 1cm every 2 years?
