  1. “Tempers flared in #NorthRichmond on Monday morning as #cyclists gathered to protest a controversial move to narrow bike lanes on a main thoroughfare and reintroduce 48 #CarParking spaces. The project, described by the #CityOfYarra #council as a “#GlowUp”, involves road resurfacing and the relocation of existing bike lane bollards between #HoddleSt and #ChurchSt...

“The work marks the end of a five-year trial of wide, protected lanes that have become a focal point of local political division.”

Mayor #StephenJolly defended the works on Monday, saying the current infrastructure was a “#BikeSuperhighway that’s not used that much”.

“It’s about sharing and not listening to just one interest group,” Jolly said. “These changes will make the bike lane the same width it is on #AlbertStreet that it continues from, while allowing locals #BetterAccess to their Buddhist Temple, homes and businesses and also get some parking back.”

  2. Short lesson from a long story.

Never, ever use a debit card in the NCP car park app - always use a credit card.

The app may arbitrarily decide your debit card has insufficient funds and then NCP will chase you for the payment even though you paid and have a receipt!

I have sorted it out, and they begrudgingly admit it's an issue.

  3. "#CarParking in housing developments should be 'wholly eliminated' where there's good access to urban services & #PublicTransport.
To meet #climate & #sustainability targets, draft guidelines from Department of Housing will reduce car parking spaces “at all” urban locations.
The graduated approach would see parking spaces at new homes #minimised, substantially #reduced, or “wholly #eliminated” in major #cities."

  4. Potential FoI request for early next year, I think.

With the local council saying there's no free parking this year, doesn't this serve as an ideal opportunity to evaluate the impact of such schemes? I wonder if they have data on the number of people use car parks last year (free parking) which can be compared to usage this year (charged parking).

If data exists, we could compare town centre footfall overall as well.
