My jaw hit the floor repeatedly as I was reading this letter to #CarolynHax, even before I got to her answer.
The letter-writer has been so ground down by her boyfriend's emotional abuse—and, if I had to guess, probably by prior emotional abuse from her family, priming her to think the boyfriend's abuse is normal—so badly that she's apparently entirely unable to see the obvious abuse for what it is.
