For #FindsFriday we would like to present a find from a #Roman vicus in the #Carnuntum area: a strigilis!
A #strigilis is a metal body scraper with an elongated, curved tongue. It was used for body care in the #thermalbaths to remove oil, old skin residue and dirt from softened skin.
The back of this strigilis is decorated with three double grooves. The handle has no decorations, rivets or loops, which suggests that it once had a lead handle that has not survived.

Last week I paid a visit to open-air museum Carnuntum in the city of Petronell. This was my second trip to Austria from Bratislava, but unlike the first one, by car. Anyway, the museum was amazing. I have never seen roman "ruins" restored to such level. The main part depicts an #ancient #roman city of #Carnuntum, including thermal spa, then we took a short stroll to amphitheater and on our way home, stopped in a indoors museum, where delicate (including golden and silver) artifacts were presented. From frequently traveling between slovakia and czechia, I almost forgot that people do indeed speak different language beyond the border. I bought one brochure in slovak language for my dad and one in English for my friend.
