With great joy and gratitude, Svara Sādhana – A Handbook of Voice Care and Practice is presented today — a work shaped by years of teaching, practice, observation and reflection.
The cultivation of the voice is an important part of every musician’s journey. Yet, voice care and vocal practice are often treated as separate concerns, while in reality they are closely connected. A healthy and well-cultivated voice provides the foundation on which musical expression can grow.
Svara Sādhana has been conceived as a practical companion for musicians, music students, vocalists and music teachers. It is equally intended for those beginning their musical journey and for experienced musicians who wish to revisit the fundamentals of voice and practice with greater awareness.
The book looks at vocal practice not merely as a collection of exercises to be repeated, but as a conscious process of listening, observing, understanding and refining.

Kaleeshabi Mahaboob and Mahaboob Subhani are practicing Muslims but learned #Carnatic music where most work is about #Hindu gods and concerts generally connect to religion. They set aside the religion part and mastered the instrument + music and performed in 100s of temples, etc.

I'm a big fan of #Carnatic music - once you've trained your ear to appreciate the micro-tones it is sublime.

The vocals are extremely impressive as well as the arrangement. You're not disrespecting carnatic music and still keeping to a faithful vocalization but with some extra oomph.

Ragamala! An all-night festival of Hindustani and Carnatic Indian classical music held at the Chicago Cultural Center. We only stayed for one session but we got to see Gaurav Mazumdar on sitar and Amit Kavthekar on tabla. They were students of the great Ravi Shankar and Zakir Husain respectively.

"gajawadana" conjugates the words gaja (गज elephant) and wadana (वदन face) to simply mean "elephant face".
"beduwe" (ಬೇಡುವೆ) is a Kannada word to mean "I plead."
Together, "gajawadana beduwe" means "I plead/appeal to the one with elephant face".

I just got an event notice on Facebook for a #Carnatic #IndianClassicalMusic concert here in #Aarhus in February, and already the New Year is looking up :-). ICM concerts are extremely rare here and the last Carnatic concert was cancelled because of visa issues, so fingers crossed!
