  1. M1126 "Striker"

A mix of a Striker from a Helluva Boss and an M1126 Stryker APC. There are two options available - the original and the military.

No, this is not a transformer, or a technomorph, to whom it will seem for the first time...

  4. My New Favorite Jarred Pasta Sauce Tastes Like It’s Homemade (I Promise, It’s Not Rao’s!)

I always keep a jar of marinara sauce in my pantry. Its uses are near-endless: one-pan shakshuka, quick chicken Parme…

  5. For the second parasite for #InsertAnInvert2024 I’m sharing the source of carmine, a bright red pigment derived from carminic acid. It’s traditionally harvested from cochineal, a sessile parasite on Opuntia cacti in South America, north through to Mexico and the southwest US. They are laboriously collected by brushing them off the pads of prickly pear cacti. 🧵1/n

  7. And in case you’re wondering where to find the cochineal insects, they conveniently live en masse on the types of cactus paddles seen here in the foreground.

(The carpet in the background is made entirely of cochineal-dyed yarn.)

  10. The last week of 2023 is #invertefest so I’m sharing a recent print I made about carmine, a bright red pigment derived from carminic acid, traditionally harvested from cochineal, a sessile parasite on Opuntia cacti in South America, north through to Mexico & the southwest US. They are laboriously collected by brushing them off the pads of prickly pear cacti. 🧵

  12. #SciArtSeptember #Carmine

Carmine pigment is derived from the carminic acid in the bodies of cochineal insects. Synthetic carmine does exist, but it is much more expensive to produce than cochineal carmine, which can be farmed. It takes 70,000 cochineal insects to make 1 pound of red dye.
This painting is of the chemical structure of carminic acid, but the pigment is Alizarin Crimson, which is a very similar synthetic color.
