Even more infuriating than having her voice dubbed, despite the worldwide success of “Carmen Jones” and a historic Oscar nomination Dorothy Dandridge would go NEARLY 3 YEARS without appearing in film again (1957’s “Island in the Sun”- and she’s barely in that!)

Dorothy Dandridge was nominated for an Oscar for “Best Actress” for her titular role in “Carmen Jones”. She was the first Black American woman to be nominated for this award. Unfortunately, she lost to Grace Kelly in “The Country Girl”
