  9. In season 4, episode 3 “Scallop” of The Bear (FX, 2025), the inimitable Rob Reiner shows up as a business consultant by the name of Albert Schnurr. In his introduction, he’s wearing a black baseball cap featuring a typewriter. A line drawing/outline, it looks a bit like a Corona 3 to me. It’s definitely not the Royal KMG his father was famous for using.

  10. I watched a youtube upload of "Home Movie: The Princess Bride". Some of the actors were really good, some went the extra mile and made some hilarious interpretations or choices of props and environment, but the whole wasn't nearly as interesting and creative as "Shrek Retold".

I did enjoy it, and what I liked about it was that even in this version with no director, no costume department, no scenery, you can still see how great the script and dialogue is, it shines through. Now I want to watch the original again.

One thing that really got me was at the end when Rob Reiner, the original director, played the boy, and his father Carl Reiner played the grandpa.

The boy says, will you come back tomorrow and read it again, and grandpa says "as you wish", winks, and exits the room. And that's the last thing Carl Reiner ever recorded – he passed away only days later.

  15. I was listening to an old interview with #CarlReiner and I thought this was a story about #GeorgeBurns. Suddenly it takes a turn when Reiner mentions that "George Burns" died in a plane crash and then adds "Too young".

  16. #TheManWithTwoBrains has mostly aged well. I think too many people judge #SteveMartin based on his later "family friendly" works instead of his early zany films.

Of course #CarlReiner is a main ingredient in those #movies.

Rewatching credits for films I loved when I was young is funny because I remember names like Michael Chapman (cinematography) and Marion Dougherty (casting) popping up again and again.

  17. Tonight in 1964 — #RodSerling appeared on THE CELEBRITY GAME on CBS.

#CarlReiner hosted this HOLLYWOOD SQUARES precursor from the same creators (Merrill Heatter and Bob Quigley).

  19. "A Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch" for all you Zappa fans. A Droodle: this one was also named "Mother Pyramid Feeding Her Baby", by Richard Price. tallfellow.com/droodles-compen . We can still make them up ourselves, any day. The CONCEPT isn't patented. If you're warm and safe and well fed--trying to be like Carl Reiner, and like Richard Price can be good for what ails you. Let's have fun drawing!

  20. Rund sieben Jahrzehnte lang arbeitete Carl Reiner als Schauspieler, Komiker und Regisseur - und prägte die Comedy-Szene in den USA entscheidend mit. Nun ist der Hollywood-Veteran hochbetagt gestorben.

  21. A lovely piece on the friendship between Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner. But to really enjoy it, I think you need to have seen, or at least know about, the stuff Brooks and Reiner (both father and son) have done.
