Eden Arts, the charity that organised the Winter Droving event in #Penrith just announced it's moving it to #Carlisle. Everyone is understandably bemused and upset. Last year's event was cancelled at the last minute due to a severe storm forecast (which didn't materialise, but was still the right thing to do). Strange decision (well, unless you focus on the money which was the deciding factor), Carlisle has it's merits of course but the atmosphere of the droving at Penrith was incredible and the community was very involved, I just can't see it working transplanted to a city, and I can't see how it can now return to Penrith given the level of upset Eden Arts have caused there. Penrith needs this kind of thing more than Carlisle too, the town has struggled for decades.

Hype for the Future 228D: City of Middletown, Ohio

Another visit to the excellent #Tullie in #Carlisle today. It really is a credit to the city, and punches above its weight.
We took some time in the new ground floor permanent exhibit about the city itself, and spent longer than last time in the Roman Wall section, which uniquely among the places on the wall also connects the roman story with experiences of walls in recent conflict:s Northern Ireland, the USA, Germany, Israel/Palestine, Kashmir, etc.
Looking forward to the costume section reopening after renovation, and the mechanical automata temporary exhibition.
(If anyone comes to visit or walk #hadrianswall , I really recommended both downstairs at Tullie and The Roman Army museum near Greenhead for the context. It will really add to the experience itself).

Hype for the Future 40C: Southeastern Pennsylvania
Historically, settlement patterns have largely been blocked by the mountainous zones throughout the Eastern United States, known as the Appalachian Mountains. Further east along the mountains and valleys, however, is the vast majority of the population of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, with the largest city, Philadelphia, located within the region, as well as Allentown, Reading, Lancaster, York, Bethlehem, Easton, Chambersburg, Shippensburg, Carlisle, Harrisburg, and numerous other […]https://novatopflex.wordpress.com/2025/12/10/hype-for-the-future-40c-southeastern-pennsylvania/
