A “train and bike” tour today, in #Austria’s 🇦🇹 very South.
This is the, German and Slovenian speaking, bilingual part of #Carinthia #Kärnten #Koroška: we see that the priest’s parking lot at the #Ledenitzen #Ledince funeral parlour is labelled “Pfarrer - Župnik”.
The beautiful stained glass windows representing the “Kreuzweg” “Križev pot” Way of the Cross are the work of Valentin Oman, an artist deeply rooted in the region.
And there was a coffee stop by the roadside, obviously. -

The people of #Carinthia had an interesting approach to stopping storms: They shot at the clouds using rifles stuffed with blessed bullets or powder.
Since the storms were created by weather witches or mages, the blessed items would immediately stop their magics and thus the storm.

Wasser ins Gesicht werfen, die feuchte Luft atmen, die voll von Berg und Wald ist. Hin zum Bach lauschen, über Taschen stolpern und alle Dinge an ihrem Ort prüfen, sicher nicht zum letzten Mal heute. Routinen jungen Tages vor dem ersten Kaffee. Habt es mild heute.

Aufgebrochen in den Tag mit früher Sonne, Aufbruch in den Abend mit frühem Mond. Hirsch an einsamer Straße, das Geweih groß und bleich im streifenden Kegel der Scheinwerfer. Eine unwirkliche Erscheinung. Dazu fremde Dörfer und Bergschatten, schon fast zu gewohnt. Müde, aber auch in einem freundlichen Sinne.

Hiking in at least parts Carinthia is a difficult mess. Even with OpenStreetMaps, it seems next to impossible to find routes that are existing, accessible and not in any way blocked. Seriously enjoyed the hospitality and kindness of people out here but still this is quite disappointing. (Current example: Trying to get from Ragga gorge to Raggaalm...)

Und dann das Erwachen des Tales wieder jenseits dieser Wände, vorsichtig, aber bestimmt. Erster Kaffee, Haare glätten, Stimmung auch. Vor dem neuen Aufbruch in die steinerne Weite. Tosende Wasser in engen Schluchten. Fetzen klaren Himmels hoch oben, die Sohlen finden vorsichtigen Halt auf Holz und Stein. Myriaden von Tropfen formen Myriaden von Regenbögen. Farben sammeln. Sich innerlich und äußerlich strecken, gegen den schweren trüben Knäuel, der immer mitreist.
