Eleven years ago I watched these two glorious gentlemen do a couple of #Cardiacs covers at the end of their show in a little pub in Wakefield.
Last night they did it “for real” at the Albert Hall in Manchester. I don’t think Vennart ever could have predicted that! 😎
What a wonderful night, and it was lovely to bump into Sharron in the pub afterwards 😀

I have dipped into the T-Shirt Vault for tonight’s #Cardiacs show!
(Old band t-shirts get put in an airtight bag in the loft when they start to get frayed and tatty)
Tonight I shall be sporting a 2004 vintage Little Man And A House long-sleeve from the Wildhearts winter tour, where I attended the Sheffield Leadmill date (and my car broke down on the way home 😔)
It’s getting a quick wash before I leave, as it was kinda smelly (no BO smell; fabric that’s been in storage for a long time smelly)

Listening to Cardiacs’ LSD for the n+1th time today, I’m struck with that same sadness I felt when Tim Smith died in 2020: a sadness wrapped in the strange grief of not-knowing-someone but also knowing them & their work intimately, like a familiar floodtide coursing through the last 40 years of my life.

I've been looking forward to the new Cardiacs' album LSD even though it carries with it a piquant odour of melancholy for being the first new album completed after Tim Smith's death (can he really be gone 5 years now?). It's only been in gestation for, what, EIGHTEEN years…? The trepidation of playing it was real.
But: it is wonderful, and—as ever and ever—utterly worthy of laudation.
And Tim is on it, all of Tim.
And Time is in it, all of Time.

My mind is more than a little blown that the lead singer from #Oceansize is now officially the lead singer with #Cardiacs 🤯
Mike's been working with the band for years, taking part in the Family shows, and has been a huge fan since forever. This is a dream job for him. It was obvious he was going to be involved, but we had no idea to this extent.

Ceci est l'un des plus beaux (dans le sens de complètement foutraque et absolument génial) des solos de guitare de la bande à #TimSmith. Le dialogue avec les cuivres est un petit chef d'œuvre, le langage mélodique de la guitare est un feu d'artifice.
Et bravo à ce compte Youtube pour s'être coltiné la retranscription de ce que je pensais naïvement être impossible à rédiger sur une partition.
