as far as I am aware here in Australia domestic airline emissions will fall under the #SafeguardMechanism proposed scheme and will be able to offset 100% of emissions with Australian carbon offset credits. The integrity of those carbon credits already under question.International aviation covered by problematic ICAO CORSIA carbon offsets scheme .
Meanwhile new proposed runways like at Melbourne Airport will induce demand

@pollyjhemming I had a go at aviation and carbon offsets and CORSIA in January 2017 in a slideshare presentation. What a minefield.
Came to the conclusions:
* We need to fly less
* Price flight tickets to include climate impact costs
* Implement demand management restriction of flying
* For aviation carbon offsetting, Choose quality carbon credits when you do fly (But how to choose when there is a lack of regulation and verification?)I'd probably add a frequent flyer levy now or use a personal carbon budget system. and perhaps a Hefty runway tax on private jets
