not all doom and gloom in German lands: 25 years after the initial Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), the crossing finally happened!
“Together, wind and solar power generated 225 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity – accounting for 44% of the total in 2025 – with just 217TWh (43%) coming from fossil fuels.”

@robcornelius At current warming rates (~0.18°C per decade), reaching +5°C would take roughly 20-25 years—around 2046-2051.
Norther Europe as all regions would face massive challenges, but not as bad as souther Europe or tropical regions.
does +5C mean end of mankind?
Not necessarily, but +5°C would make human civilization extremely difficult and precarious in many regions. It wouldn't be an automatic extinction event, but it would create conditions of severe hardship, mass migration, resource scarcity, and potential civilizational collapse in some areas.
if mankind burned 90% of all oil and gas on earth, how much Celsius would it increase global average temps?
Claude 4.5: If all known fossil fuels on Earth were burned, global temperatures would rise approximately 6.4–9.5°C above pre-industrial levels, according to a 2016 study published in Nature #ClimateChange #carbonbrief.org

"I have the impression that, in China, being a scientist in society is something that is good, you have a good salary, a good social status, good respect and a good career prospect. In Europe, [laughs] it’s a bit more like you’re marginal, you accept to have lower salaries against more freedom. And the consideration for what you do in society is not that high"

Why wind and solar power is going to ‘waste’ in China in the global energy crisis
The “wasted” wind and solar energy stems from inflexible grid management that continues to rely on coal for…

…“That kind of space I haven’t seen in my 10-year history with the UNFCCC.”
— Juan Carlos Monterrey Gómez of Panama.Reporter, Daisy, adds that
“All of the sessions were held under the Chatham House rule, meaning discussions were not attributable to individual speakers to encourage more open debate.”
Details on the Conference’s views of the takeaways are in the PDF at https://static1.squarespace.com/static/68dc91a7e566d74a91e8e22d/t/69f2979327f294060a2cb53d/1777506195819/TAFF+Conference_Co-host+Takeaways_DEF.pdf

It’s been a fortnight since the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels finished on 29 April, and I had forgotten to check in on how it developed after the 26th.
So my thanks to Daisy Dunne of #carbonBrief for writing up a report

#today the #equinox/equilux is nearly here! Some think the engineering of #Stonehenge and #Mnajdra are fancy, but roll over, because I get blinded by direct sun while sitting up in bed only at about this time of year and for the autumn equinox / #equilux too!
I will be in at uni today then captaining a team this evening for the #CBQuiz
