Before New York’s Liberty Island was home to the Statue of Liberty, legend has it that the infamous pirate Captain Kidd buried some of his treasure there. A pair of soldiers allegedly found the treasure years later while stationed at Fort Wood but were chased off by Kidd’s ghost.
